Copy B is sent in with your federal tax return. Copy 2 is sent in with your state tax return.

Generally, your employer would provide you with 4 copies, one goes with your federal return, one goes with your state return, one goes with your city/local return (where applicable) and one copy you keep for your records.

There are places that have a state and county tax form to fill out, so those people need two copies (one for each form).

If you only have a state tax form to send, they'll only need one copy.

No. On your W2 there should be printed which one goes where. (1) will go to the State, (1) will go to the Federal. and you should have at least one if not two for your own records.

One copy is attached to your Federal Tax Return, one copy is attached to your State Tax Return, and you should retain one copy for your records.
