How has it come to be that shoe repairs, key cutting and dry-cleanings services are always found in same shop?

I am 16 years old and am planning to go to college in august studying NQ Business. I am wanting to open my own salon when I am a little older. i would appreciate any advice from people who have opened salons and have suceeded or failed. And if you could tell me around how much it would cost to start a salon as a business and at what age you would recommend.
