I am 16 years old and am planning to go to college in august studying NQ Business. I am wanting to open my own salon when I am a little older. i would appreciate any advice from people who have opened salons and have suceeded or failed. And if you could tell me around how much it would cost to start a salon as a business and at what age you would recommend.
I'd be grateful for anyone's help.
Thank You all Very Much!

You are never to young to be an entrepreneur. The first place to start is to gain experience from a salon. Think about interviewing them and see if they are suitable to provide you with management experience as well as the practical. I am aware that in the UK Toni & Guy Essentials supports and backs people to open their own salons. I do not know the details. But find one and go and ask them how they started. Good luck with the course.

Look into the laws in your state. The costs can vary SO much. First of all, some states won't let you operate without a MANAGING cosmetologist on staff during operating hours. That costs more money to you. Also the square footage requirements, size of your dispensary, laws regarding floor materials that are acceptable. etc... I'd personally talk to people that do this near you. IN the state you see yourself doing this. As to age... I don't think it's as much a factor as WHO the person is. Drive, ambition, and a willingness to stick it out for about 5 yrs. to give it a real "go" are more important. Best of luck!
