My ex did and he is doing well. I was there to help start the practice. You have do to plenty of things to survive at first though. Decide what kind of law you want to practice.

* Make sure your name is at the district, county, and juvenile courts as a court appointed counsel or guardian at litem.
* Put an annoucement in the business section of the local paper.
* Contact any and all classmates from HS and college that could be potential sources of business.
* Make sure you bill clients monthly and be flexible with payment plans.
* I'm not sure if this will work for you but- We bought an office building so he had office space and we rented out the other office suites to pay the mortgage and utilities.

The only "self-made" lawyers I see around here are con artists that use the system for ripping people off and stealing things from people and companies legally. They know how to manipulate the law to get what they want, and to put those that try to oppose them into jail.

It is very sad but extremely true. Try not to fall into becoming this type of Lawyer.
