I want to break a rent contract. I have 7 months on the lease left. The situation with my x-boyrfriend was an abusive one so i had to leave but I was told I still have to pay my half of the rent because both of our names are on the lease and if he cannot pay for all of the rent then i am responsible for what he cannot pay for. However, i asked him to break the contract so that he can start a new lease under his name and he refuses. I have 7 more months to go and i am not even living in the same state. i am afraid that he will have someone else move in and he will split the rent with the other person and pocket my money. What should I do? Is there any way to get out of this?

they signed a contract in Sept. 30th 1991 to buy a mobile home for $14,500, bear interest at 4% annum, payable in equal payments of $170.00 per month. I thought they were paying my mother, which was fine, but i've just found out that they never even made a payment. NOT ONE! How much do they owe us?

I bought my first house in August in a rural town in MN for just over 100k. The town is small about 3 thousand people.

The house had been on the market for like 6 mos, so we paid even lower than the twice cut asking price. The bank apparisal was for about 20k more than we paid, but the tax assesment was for 10 k less then we paid, but the tax assessor dosen't go inside the house, just assess the house sq. footage and land.

We've painted and put in new hardwood floors in two rooms since we moved. And we have plans to do more before we move out in 5-10 years.

But I keep hearing all this stuff about how homes are going down in value. One report I heard today said homes have depreciated 5% since last Nov. Arggg. Was I stupid to buy a house? Do think my house has deprecated? If so by how much?

I want to submit a bid on a bank owned home that, according to the listing agent, already has multiple bids at asking price. The home has only been on the market about 2 weeks. In my opinion, the home is very desireable and it is quite possible that it has multiple bids. I just never know what to believe in this market....If I were to bid, it would be 7% under asking price. I really love this house, but is it even worth my time?

My family and I live in an apartment complex and because of another complex that got way out of control with Christmas lights now all the complexes that are owned by the same company said that we all have to take down our christmas lights too. There was nothing in our lease regarding this issue when we signed our lease. Can they really tell us to take our lights down 4 weeks before X-mas? What is the tenant law on that? and what are our rights as tenants? Please advsie. Thanks!

I live in Massachusetts but the cold weather is too long here. I have been thinking of buying a second home in Florida. It's just me and my wife so we will be fine with a one bedroom place that does not require us to maintain a yard. In other words an apartment/condo will be awesome. Here is my dream: walking distance to water and a town with some nice places to eat. It should also be reasonably safe since we won't live there often but visit once a month or so. We are looking for something under $100,000.

I will really appreciate if people from Florida will be kind enough to give us some tips to get started. I am looking for suggestions on towns, new communities, condos, etc.

My husband and I are purchasing our first home and we are in love with it! However, the radon testing results came back and it is at 30. The sellers are putting in a mitigation system in on Monday.

My question is, when we decide to resell someday, will this system be a deterrent to future buyers?

Scenario: Live in a two bedroom apartment for 1 year. Dog sat puppy for total of 1month, not consecutive. Most of that time occurred within the first 6mo of living there. Puppy had a few accidents but nothing much. Had the carpets cleaned multiple times while living there. Upon moving out had the carpet cleaned extensively, lasting about 12 hours. After moving out was presented with a bill for the carpet replacement citing animal stains and a strong smell of urine.

1) i had never once smelled urine in my apparent nor had ever had any of my close friends mention any type of pet odor during my entire time there.
2) when we moved out there were only two stains remaining: a permanent marker stain and a rust stain, neither mentioned in the report. No sign of a urine/"animal" stain.
3) Puppy urine accidents were few and far between and were for the most part cleaned immediately.
4) the management has no photographs of the stains
5) the carpet was definitely replaced

Our new home is now in foreclosure. We want to move back into our previous home, but now the (ARM) mortgage is too high. We thought we would have our old home w/ the ARM sold before our other one was built, but the market collapsed on us. My husband is in the construction industry, so our income has been significantly reduced. If our mortgage rate was modified to its original rate (7.75) we could make the payments. Will anyone work with us? We are filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy, but we still have to be able to make the payments. Our mortgage company will not budge. Prior to this, we had excellent credit. Is there help anywhere???

today is the last day on my contract to sell my house - i've had no offers...made several offers on houses my self and even went as far as 2 days from closing on a new house and then everything went screwy. I've decided to stay put and not sell my house. Yesterday, my agent called me and said someone wanted to look at my house Friday...and he was aware that their contract with me expired thursday (today) and could he show it anyway...or would I sign an extension on their contract. I told him I was no longer interested in selling my house. He still wanted to show it as the people were flying in from out of state. I said there was no point, as I would not accept an offer as I AM NOT SELLING. But, I said he could show it...but I would NOT be open to offers. WELL, the couple showed up early and are coming to look at my house today in about 2 hours...and my contract is still valid through the end of today. Am I obligated to sell or accept an offer even though I said I wouldn't sell?

I am buying a home 12/27/07. Had the home inspection yesterday. There were some issues with the plumbing (toilet, 1st and 2nd bathroom), dishwasher backed up into the sink, garbage disposal was no good, heating system may possibly need to be replaced.

How do I negotiate this? Do I simply ask for new feature or ask them to bring the price down $5/6000.00?

Please advise.

I live in an apartment buliding in Houston, TX.Cable company says they will charge $60 bucks to fix this.Dish, receiver and all other equipment are owned by cable company.I do not own anything. I am a little frustrated why I should be at the receiving end always. Why should I be paying this repair fee when I do not own anything and even in a case when somebody is trying to mess up my cable.I can once but if that person comes again tomrrow and cut it again, cable compnay will charge me 60 bucks again and this goes on and on.Cable compnay advised me to ask my land lord for refund which he immediately say no to....and in a rude manner saying this does not fall under his responsibility....I just do not know what to do...is ther any claim court where I can take this issue to?

My neighbor wants to put the title of their home into her name, let the home go into foreclosure and then buy a home in her husband’s name. I tried to explain why I thought that would be a bad idea, but it was hard for me to think about all the different reasons why. Any ideas?

Besides- it would be bad for their credit for 7-10 years.
