My family and I live in an apartment complex and because of another complex that got way out of control with Christmas lights now all the complexes that are owned by the same company said that we all have to take down our christmas lights too. There was nothing in our lease regarding this issue when we signed our lease. Can they really tell us to take our lights down 4 weeks before X-mas? What is the tenant law on that? and what are our rights as tenants? Please advsie. Thanks!

I recommend that you contact an attorney who specializes in landlord tenant law.

I also recommend that you look for a new place to live.

Ideally you should start looking for a home to buy now. Moake it your goal to spend christmas in a house that you own.

The market is very slow right now.

Your best opportunity to buy your own home is now

Check your local laws. Call ur local public defenders office an dask to toalk to a paralegal and see they can be of help. I do not think there is anything a management company can do aboutm lights unless there is something in the original lease regarding the face of the property or something to the effect. Good luck!

Depends on where you have the lights. If they are on the outside of your unit, they have the right to have you remove them. If your decorations are interior (including around the windows), they are out of line in asking or demanding that they be removed.

it is his property all he has to say is that it is a safety/fire hazzard and you can call all the lawyers you want but it won't make a difference. If he feels it is a dangerous situation you have no recourse

if the landlord is paying the electric bill then he has the right to tell you to take them down but if you are paying the bill then he shouldn't be telling you to take them down unless the city home inspectors have contacted him and told him not to allow you to put up lights.

no.they cannot do that. unless it said so in the lease.but like you said, there was nothing that said on there then no. they cant do that. so put ur lights back on and if they say ne thing, tell them it didnt say so in the lease, so u have the right to do so.
