Or will the company demand to see actual paystubs from my employer? If so, how many? Also, what credit card do you suggest for a first-timer that would also be accepted in Europe? The only reason I'm getting one to begin with, is b/c I want to travel, but I can't reserve a hotel room anywhere w/out one and it's driving me crazy. I was told that I could maybe reserve a room with my ATM card but then somebody else said I should never ever do that, so now I have no idea...

I'm looking for stories of ordinary people who have saved huge amounts of money by living very frugally. For example, I have a vague memory of having read somewhere about a waiter who could afford to live in downtown San Fransisco on approximately $20,000/yr. because he was so careful with his money.

I'm looking for stories of ordinary folks who saved their way into financial security, not people who have gotten luckier than most with business decisions (like Warren Buffett).

Thanks!

I'm just wondering, is it a bad idea to apply for social security if you really don't need it? I'm disabled but I'm able to do things for myself(feed myself, bathe myself, etc.) However, I don't have a whole lot of money and I want to change my living situation...would this be a bad idea?

I am selling my house for cash to an investor. There is a small 15k loan on the house. This means the bank will be involved in the transaction.
The investor is doing most/all of the paperwork.
Should I hire a lawyer to check all the paper work?
Or as long as the cashiers check has the right numbers on it will I be ok?
My thinking is I DO NOT need an attorney because the bank will be watching its own interests, therefore unintentionally watching mine as well.

we bought a home together last year and have been equally splitting the mortgage since then. however, i put down the majority of the down payment on the home. can someone help me figure out an equation by which to determine who owns what percentage of our home--as in if i wanted to buy it from him, or vice versa, how would we go about figuring out what that value/number would be?

thanks!

I'm in point of my life where i have to choose from a house or a new car. My delima is, i need a new and reliable car to get to work in. My car is my asset, and i drive a good amount of miles. I know that it would be more wise to invest in a house because of the struggling market now but, if you dont have a car to get to work with then you won't have money to pay your mortgage. I'm still in college majoring in finance, will finish in two semester what should i do?

Just heard on the news last night that American Mortgage went bankrupt and all those who were paying into an escrow account lost all their money! Apparently, that money isn't insured so they all ended up having to pay taxes twice.

In today's market, it seems like this is a risk we all face. If it's not insured, what's the point of paying into an escrow account?

Why not just put that money aside on our own?

i purchased 15 in gas today on my debit card.....then i went to the bank withdrew some money and notice my balance was off quite a bit...so i called the banks hotline and the lady said they are putting a hold on ppls accounts for 49 dollars until the money clears for the gas (which usually takes about 2 days) since a lot of people keep overdrawing their accounts to get gas. I live in NY state. She said they started doing this at the end of July....anyone else have this happen? She told me the money would go back into my account once the 15 dollars goes through.

I have an agreed over draught of £100 which basically translates to a loan which is interest free. What I want to know is, if this is my agreed overdraught limit ie the amount I am allowed to go into the red on my current account then why does my bank allow me to dip just a little over this limit so that i have to start paying interest on this extra amount. Worse still they charge £28 for going over my AGREED LIMIT . Is it me or is this not a touch unfair.

Its like the bank is thinking ' well this poor guys got no money so lets penalise him for it.'

i noticed on the bottom of my personal checks, it contains my bank account number and routing number. ive seen many websites, like my credit card website for example, that use just these two pieces of information to draw money from my bank account. because of this, when i give somebody a check, does that mean they'll be able to access money from my bank account?

Ok...so my parents gave me $5,000 as a gift. The truth is, I don't want to spend it on myself. I make my own money, and would feel selfish to use it knowing that they have no retirement funds/investments. So my question is, how would YOU spend this money on your parents?

Thank you
