Of course it's a scam. Has "Bruce" asked for money from you yet? "Bruce" (not is real name) is probably a Nigerian teenager sitting in an internet cafe in Lagos. They make up English names to attract victims in the US, Canada and the UK.

1) No legit lenders troll these boards looking for borrowers.
2) No legit lenders use a generic email address (Yahoo!, gmail, Hotmail).
3) No legit lenders require a fee upfront to do a loan.

I've never heard of him and honestly that's a REALLY sketchy name- do not borrow or pay - trust your gut and have NO financial interactions with this man.
whats the money for? what it will be used for is really the key point in helping you decide where to seek out money. if its for school there is a ton of quality lenders- i loved working with Access and Citibank.
speaking of banks go there if you need money that's not for school.
remember this- read the fine print on everything. really understand how much interest you 'll be paying and what your final cost for this money will be. example- if you need only $1000 but with interest and charges by the time you've paid it off you've paid $3000 it really wasn't worth it.
also- if its an emergency see if there are state or local fund programs that could help you out- IE most hospitals have programs to help you pay hospital bills if you can't afford them- but they won't tell you about it, you have to ask.
good luck and remember to not get frantic about money- it will work out...

It is very simple. Any one who asks for any money up front is a crook. This racket has been going for so long, that people who fall for it deserve what they get.
