Bank of England Bailing out another bank, BOYS Looking after the BOYS I think. If Northern Rock can't look after it's own purse, then they should sink just like any family is forced to do when they cant afford to look after their mortgage repayments, they are told not to overspend, tighten their pursestrings, go without, & even after doing that, & they still can't afford to pay their mortgage, the BANKS take their HOME away from them leaving them high & dry, families with children, because of the general cost of living, not because they are ripping families off with high interest rates, grabbing as much, & more money back than is fair, like Norther Rock & everyother bank on the high streets Now they even want to charge for every Direct Debit transaction, imagine how much that will rake in, without even having to work for it, instant charging per transaction, talking of 65p at the moment, but give poor old joe public a rise in their paypackets, NO WAY !

I was recently terminated from my job in July and am having difficulty finding a new one, but in the meantime I have about $25K in credit card debt and not able to make payments. A credit counselor suggested bankruptcy, but I know the consequences of such action. However, without a job I have no money and I do plan to get one as soon as possible. So please don't tell me to get a job, I already know that and doing everything I can by applying for many different positions. But given my current situation, is bankruptcy my only choice and is it better to do when you are unemployed or have a job? I have also already tried to contact the creditors to negotiate the terms, but no luck since my credit is in such bad shape. Any suggestions?

I just got served this morning for a debt that was for 900.00 originally but is now 1275.00! I am pregnant and had a very difficult pregnancy which left me with no choice but to stop working until I have the baby, (which is in 12/06/07). Anyways, I got served today by Wells Fargo Financial and have 20 days to respond...has anyone been through this that has experience with going to court over such matter? I don't own my car yet, and I don't own a house so what then can they do to me? At this point can I file bankruptcy or is it too late? Or will I be required to make payment arrangements at the court? Help!

just got papers from an attorney of my ex. It doesn't really say much on there..except I am a creditor. First off-- It doesn't say what I'm a creditor for (child support?) I have no clue - papers are definately not self explanitory. Does anybody know if I can go to the pacer website and get information of exactly what he's claiming he owes people.. or is this site only for the ones that actually file for bankruptcy?

Has anyone ever used a consumer credit counselling or debt help company to consolidate or settle debt? If so, what company did you use? How did it affect your credit? How did it affect your financial state? What was your experience like (positive or negative)? Would you recommend that company?

my current roommate moved in in March and only paid a portion of the rent and promised to pay me the rest by the end of that month, but ever since then i've had to nag her to pay me back in small portions and she still fails to do so, she kept on making excuses and prolonging the time. we're on a yearly contract and share utilities, she seem to be able to pay rent and utilities on time,, our names is on all the bills.

i'm so frustrated and annoyed and now i'm having issue paying my own bills =(

any suggestions? i don't know what to do but i'm so fed up with it and i don't want to be stuck in this situation anymore.. she owes me more than $100.... HELP~

My wife and I both have substantial student loans. However, I consolidated mine at 3.5%, but her's were consolidated at 8.25%.

Just to pay her interest is $700/month. My payment is $300, with 1/3 currently going to principle. We also have about $8,000 on credit cards at 10% interest.

Our combined income is about $100,000 annually. Right now, I pay the $350 on my loan each month, and about $1,200 on hers. At that rate, her loan should be paid off in around 8 years.

I just feel like I may need to rethink this approach, as it seems like we make a lot of money, but are not getting anywhere fast against our debt.

Oh, we also have about 75G's in our 401Ks and put away 10% of our salary. We're early 30's. Any thoughts on how to reduce this debt more quickly? Some days it feels like we'd be better off defaulting and going to work at MacDonalds...lol

Afternoon all,

I've got an unsecured personal loan from Northern Rock, and so I've been watching the situation with interest. I don't want them to go bump, because it's a bit harsh on all the people with savings, but it got me to thinking.

If NR goes bust, what happens to my loan? I understand that if they get taken over, it would transfer to the new owner, but what about if no-one takes it over (which seems a possibility in the current financially troubled world)? Is my loan written off as bad debt, or would administrators become involved?

Northern Rock can't borrow from the money market so it can't offer mortgages to people so it borrows from the Bank of England at higher interest rates and so puts up its mortgage rates to compensate. The government says we shouldn't ask for more wages so that we can pay our higher interest mortgages because it will spoil their economic model.

I've worked too hard to have my money disappear overnight by a shock overnight bank collapse.

I always thought The Royal Bank of Scotland was safe, and still do sort of.... but now I'm wondering cause I'm sure they went shopping and bought US banks/lenders a while back.

Are there any banks with loadsa cash, strong asset sheet, few dodgy bad loans on their books ect... where it's safest for money.

HSBC worries me cause of all that World Bank stuff.... makes me think they are exposed to risks in every country and what would happen in there was a run on deposits in like HSBC accounts in Singapore or France or whatever, as I'm sure that would affect UK depositers standing too.

BTW - I'm going out now with my Mum... will have to check for answers (and thumbs up good ones) when I get back in 2 hours. Thanks.

How many years back do the 3 credit reporting agency's go back in your credit history in calculating credit scores? For example if a credit card from 11 years ago is still listed on my equifax report today can I ask it to be removed given it is greater than 10 years ago?

Just how are they buying a house that is 300k and paying for all of lifes other expenses as well like car, food, clothes, insurance etc. How are you doing it. Me and my wife can put the figures together. Are people spending every last dollar they have and using credit cards for everything. Whats the story?
