My 18 yr. old grandaughter opened a new account at a local bank.depositing $100.00. She was instructed to keep track of our withdrawals in her checkbook but was not informed about overdrafts. Because of an error in math she saw on the internet she had overdrawn a couple of dollars. She works minimum wage and went in and deposited two small pay checks and noone questioned if she understood about the overdraft. She thought with her deposit she was covered. She contiued thinking her account was OK and didn't deduct the one overdraft because she thought they excused the first one as a first time deal. When she next checked the her internet account she had about 6 overdraft charges of $33.00 plus other return charges. She needed $160.00 because of these charges to bring her account up to date. I gave her the money because they would have kept this up.How can they stteal money from your account that way especially when in months time she had $480.00 and they took out $319.00 in overdraf

I just finished my Master's degree and for the first time in my life I have a decent salary. I'm paying education loans, I'm putting 10% of my take-home salary toward a pension, and I am saving $500 per month. I am 28 and this is the first time in my life that I've had a retirement plan and have started saving, so I feel a bit behind. I still have a good amount of spending money because my rent is only $500 per month. Where should I put an extra $200 per month - toward education loans (which will take me 10-15 years to pay off at this rate - 6% interest), toward my retirment or toward savings? Or other suggestions? Should I just spend it and live a little? I haven't bought nice clothes in ages.

I have a debt consolidation loan I got a few years ago and I'm putting it in my Chapter 7 Bankruptcy I'm getting ready to do. My computer is the only item I listed as collateral $700 is what they put it was worth and I bought it at Walmart for $500 two years ago. Will I loose it when this goes into my bankruptcy. I can afford to get a new one in about a month from Walmart but would really like to hold onto it. Any idea's on how I can keep it?

I am currently shopping for a new LCD TV. I have found a 42' Samsung LCD. I want to purchase it but at the same time dont want to empty my bank account. Would a bank accept a loan application for something like wanting to purchase a new TV. I know many banks will offer personal loans starting at $1,000. But would they accept a loan request for something like wanting a new TV. Any helpful advice would be great, Thanks in advance!

I live in New York City and like most people looking to file bankruptcy its because I don't have much money and certainly not enough to pay all my debt! I've looked into filing and it looks like from what I can tell to file a Chapter 7 will be around $1000-2000 in fees, court fee and lawyer fees. Is there a more affordable way to do it without sacrificing on the quality of the filing?

For me, it's my quarterly water bill. We do a lot of gardening and the usage goes up in summer. Water and sewage charges on the same statement. Water is metered, and of course sewage isn't. But the late-winter bill, which should be tiny for me, is an ESTIMATE based on summer water usage, and the sewage charges are jacked up out of sight. I've called the water utility and NO ONE understands how their own estimates are calculated. I asked them to send some kind of explanation to me, and received a silly note with no helpful information at all.

Remember, I'm talking about unfairly calculated bills. A high bill that is reached fairly and documented properly would not qualify.

and are even calling me at work now...and having me paged in the office, which could jepoardize my job... I took a 10K pay cut moving from one State to another for this job, have my tax deductions maxed up to 10 just to be able to afford my apartment and living expenses. Was thinking of calling after hours and leaving him message explaining this, and asking him not to call me again....but then thought maybe not....Should I continue to ignore the calls.

Hi,
I've been given 3000 dollars by my uncle and I'm looking for advice on the best way/place to exchange these into pounds so that I get the most £'s in exchange for these. The dollar seems to be worth less over the last few months so I'm not sure what to do or where to go. Appreciate any help.
Thanks
