amount already paid and accumulated in the account? I figure 401K is a great way to save tax, but may not have much meaning if I plan on leaving the country to work internationally 5 or 6 years down te road, and I cannot reclaim my investment? Any experience/knowledge on this? Is 401K still a good investment?
Thanks...

Thanks all for your answer. I guess, I am afraid to accept E-checks from my employer and have it bounce or stopped because of some reason or another. I don't want to be oweing my bank hundreds of dollars if they do stop it.

OK, I'm stupid at money, and I realize the banks have this warped system of how interest is applied to a loan. It seems all the interest is paid in the beginning of the loan, then by the time you have enough money to pay off the loan, there is no reason to since you are then only paying principal.

OK so my question is, how is this legal? It seems totally ******. The real reason I'm asking for help is, I have 2 loans: a school loan and a house mortgage. The school loan is 7.0% interest, and the house is only 5.25%. BUTTT... the school loan is halfway paid, and the mortgage is new, so I'm paying a much larger proportion of interest on the house payment.

So, I have extra money now, which do I pay toward first?

How much does it cost to rent an apartment, fill up a gas tank, and still eat? How much disposable income is left over after taxes and expenses? Just how frugally does someone living on $36,000 per year have to behave? For comparison's sake, assume that the cost of living is equivalent to that in Atlanta.

Well, I'm having a really hard time keeping up with my bills. My husband and I are renting a home, $1500 a month. We have 3 kids, all over the age of 18. They live with us. It just seems that since we moved into this house, we have had problems keeping up on the bills. At our old house, we were a month ahead on all the bills. But when we moved, we didn't get any money back from the bank which made it impossible to keep the bills a month ahead. My husband makes 6600 a month and I make 600 a month. Yet, we are struggling. Between all of our bills, we are in trouble. What makes it worse, all of the bills are due at the beginning of the month. Our rent, car insurance, the two truck payments, and the cell phones. It's hard. Do you have any tips that could possibly help us?

We experienced a house fire in Dec.05, we had additional expenses putting our life back together, helping my elderly mom and adult children trying not to sink as well. We had an existing loan through Option One (now partnered with H&R Block) they were going to help us. They helped us alright, they charged us $30,000.00+ for paying off their loan with their company and then charged us all the fees for the new loan with company and then we had very little to pay only a portion of some bills; they did succeed in lining their pockets and making our payment even higher, now we are holding onto to life via a straw, because they have us so buried we can't see out. We both have solid work records, solid income and now we are ruined and deseperate for someone to help us find the way out. My health can't stand much more stress, does anyone have an idea of who we might talk to that is honest&would see us for who we are (our life is an open book) and perhaps help us with sound advice?
