Reason I ask is because I am finding it hard to pay my student loans and still have enough money to survive on. If my income is below the Federal Poverty Level, I could get a temporary deferrment or forbearance on the loans until I find a higher paying job.

Some months I may need more (for property taxes, etc. ) some months I may need less. Do I have to take out the same amount every month? Or can I change it to suit my needs in 3 months.

I bought a new house 2 months ago. My "mortgage guy" left me a message suggesting a re-fi.

I refinanced my previous house with this same guy probably 6 - 8 times over a period of 3-4 years, each time saving between $25 and $50/month. That all sounds good. I knocked my payment down some over the years.

What always had me questioning whether it was a good idea was that the term always stayed at 30 years, so even though my payment was lower, I felt like I was back at square one in terms of paying off the loan or building equity. Am I off base?

Or is it a moot point because in the end I sold the other house and paid off the loan while enjoying lower monthly payments? If I had kept the orginal loan, would I have built up more equity? Its probably impossible to answer without know the specifics of my loan amounts an interest rates.

Is there a formula that can help me make the decision on whether to refinance and reset the term or to just keep on with the current loan?

A friend of mine received a check made out to her from a credit union. She took it in to her bank, and they held it for two weeks. When the check cleared the bank and released the funds to my friend. Later the bank called her and said that they wanted the money back. The credit union that sent the check tried to put a stop payment, "AFTER" the check cleared. What would you do???

I read the stories about the scams . I have the same check here in my hands. I heard that it is a real check and all you have to do is to open up a new account using the check only , wait until the bank clears it, then deposit all of the money out of the account and close the account and nothing would happen. Someone else told me this. That person knew someone who did this.

Signed up for a new checking acct couple of weeks ago.Checks show up 6 days, good.Debit card supposed to be next,13 days no card no PIN.Call from bank,"Oh,they sent your new card to our office in Ocheechobee,Fl.""but Idon't know why"She said."They sent it to this branch where you signed up at by mail.Don't worry if they sent your PIN to 0cheechobee,you can change it here when you come by and pick up your card".My question:I really just wanted the card sent STRAIGHT to me,with a PIN sent STRAIGHT to me a couple days later in a sealed envelope. Now if Iwalk into that bank and the card is out of it's envelope,I would feel violated, like someone read my mail,I just don't want to get a card several people had access to it who are not my usual "vendors".Someone could stick me good with a purchase later on,When I am not paying attention and fail to protest the purchase in a timely manner.Could the bank be crooked?Should I refuse the new card, which is about the last item I want lost in the mail

It is not that i can't manage money, i just have been hit with a lot of misfortune- single mom, no child support, haven't finished college. i also have student loans for which i am current on. i am current on all payments, however i can't even afford my own place (living with my parents) Quite honestly, i just want to get the monkey off of my back. it is worrisome and nervewracking. Is bankruptcy that bad? I need a fresh start.
