they can sue you (if they even try that is) where ever you are. long as they got the proper paperwork to summons you.

most have big mouths... they talk loud but most likely nothing happens.

if you can't pay them get a lawyer! (bankruptcy - you don't have to file for bankruptcy in order to attain yourself a bankruptcy lawyer.)

They sue you from their county location, and it is valid no matter what state you live in!
