If you didn`t declare to any U.k goverment depts that you were leaving, there is a very slim chance of them catching up with you as leaving the U.k is not as easy for them to trace as putting in a dole form or being put on a cenus form. But you do have to ask yourself what are you going to do in the future? As you are not a permnant resident, Would you be returning to the U.k?
As far as I see it, you have two main choices, you could try to stay here, in Oz, and apply to become a permnant resident or return to the U.k and drop off the radar. Trust me, this is not an easy task. Good luck in what-ever you do.

What can legally happen is that the company you owe money to in the UK can legally sell that debt to an Australian company, who can then legally enforce the debt in Australia. It all depends on how persistant they are, and whether they can find you.
If you want to do things legally then you can go back to the UK and declare bankruptcy. All your debts will be written off instantly but you should seek some professional advise as there are ramifications for the future that you will need to consider.
So basically, yes - you can be chased for the debt wherever in the world you are in one way or another.

Depends how harsh they want to be.
Yes they can get a court order in Australia to make deductions from your wages (Australia are quite co-operative), or they wait til you come back.
Either way the debt won't go away!

Don't fart and frighten yourself, for THAT much money they'll find you even if you go as a hermit in a cave on an uninhabited island anywhere in the world!
