Depends on why you want the pound coin.

If it was part of your job you could say have you a pound coin as I have no change (then you could get it split)
If it was for a supermarket trolley then I would advise investing in the special key then you will not need a coin.

otherwise if for other reasons then I would ask for more than that amount.

Don't understand why you need to ask this questoin unless you want to find out what different words would be used (quid etc)

Personally I would say, please can you give me a pound.

Different people would ask in different ways, working class people (and no, I'm not knocking the working class either) would probably say "Give us a quid" or something similar whilst the middle classes / better educated would politely ask for a pound.

its bomb fire night in a few weeks so you could get some old clothes (trousers and sweatshirt ) fill um up with old newspaper sow them together and then go and stand outside a pub or shop and say pound for the guy instead of penny for the guy.
