A water company has fixed expenses and a load of new government regulations it must meet. It needs to have enough chemicals, enough equipment, enough certified operators, and enough water to start with. Then it needs to keep track of so many things that it needs automation to count up the chemicals, the measured values, the tested pollutants, the water usage, the water bills, and the filed reports. All those overhead expenses are divided up among the water subscribers. The smaller the town the more each one has to pay to cover their share. If you lived in a big city you would pay less of those fixed costs but it your little town you are stuck. The sad part is that the water company has no choice. Not doing all that paperwork and having all those measurements is illegal and would cause them to be shutdown.

OH I CAN TELL YOU YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I live in a small town in Palmdale CA. they have their own water company because they have their own well system and do not have to use the California Aquaduct. We pay seperately for everything and they can charge you whatever they want to and they do! I have a small house on a fixed income they have no assistance programs for disabled people and my bills are very high even with conservation. An average bill each month is around $75 and if you are late a $5 fee is added if they put a door tag reminder on your door they charge you an additional $15 so you aren't alone. I have tried to contact some Govt. agent. about regulations and they state that they are a private company and are under different laws and can charge what they want. So I hope you feel a little better knowing your not alone!

we pay about 80 dollars for two months. Still sounds like you are getting an OK deal. Some areas I think are much higher.
