Citibank direct pays 5% and HSBC direct is paying 5.05%. Either seems to be paying consistently more than ING.

Hope this helps.

I use and like ING Direct. Later, I found and started to use HSBC Direct. HSBC pays a higher rate than ING, but I like their web site less. It takes them longer to transfer funds into or out of another bank, their logon process is more of a hassle, and their new account procedure is more cumbersome. However, right now HSBC pays 0.65% more than ING so I keep most of my short term funds at HSBC. I would stick with ING for 0.1 or 0.2% difference, but not 0.65%

I looked at Emigrant Direct, but to get their best rate, you have to have a second account with them (I don't remember the details).

I love citibank. Check their interest rates and see the convinience.

With ING, if you have to withdraw money, you will have to transfer money to local bank account and then take out money from local bank ATM. that is 2 step process and seems to be complicated to me.

With Citibank, you will just walk in to citibank ATM, withdraw cash !! Thats easy.

And citibank e-savings account pays more than ING.

The best way to answer that would be to go to http://www.bankrate.com and check out the interest rates. As far as ease of use, that's probably personal opinion. EmigrantDirect.com has some good rates, but you can't write checks off of the account. You can, however, make electronic transfers for free to and from your checking account.

Good for you for trying to make your money work for you!
