Credit card companies love the college students. STAY WAY AWAY FROM CREDIT CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's what happens. Credit card companies send you a low interest student credit card with $5000+ dollar limits. they entice you with a 4% interest for the first 3 years or something like that. No payments for your first year and things of this nature. They know you are in college. They know you can't make payments. At the end of the low interest rate, the interest rates go up to like 25% or more. I've seen them as high as 32%. If you borrow $1000 on that card your interst will rack you another $250 a MONTH!!!! Even if you're making your minimum payment. So My advice is stay away from credit cards!!!!!

Avoid getting a credit card, if at all possible. Although it will help contribute to your overall credit score, it opens up the possibility of going into debt.

Also, try to set aside a certain amount of money per week or paycheck. Getting used to this now will make you a better saver in the future.

Go to the financial class, learn as much as you can. You don't have to be an expert with numbers, but learning what can affect your taxes, how interest is calculated and other more common items turn out to be very helpful in the future.

Start saving 20 dollars a week and try and study thing ahead of time so when the professor asked you about this thing you will already have a heads up/ and also stay in tutoring because you will need it . This is a Plus hang out with Sophomores because most likely they already knew the professor and what he will teach and you might be able to buy the books off of those students for a cheaper price.and other things if you have good money. Just keep in mind that money talks in college. Congratulations and Have a good time in college I wish you well and great success.

Avoid an education that you can't afford. If you graduate deep in debt, you will take years to get even with the person who skips college and goes directly into the workforce. I advise working as much as you can during college and living as frugally as possible. I also suggest working as hard as you can to graduate in 4 years. The school will prefer to milk you along for the extra year or two, but that costs more and slows your entry into the workforce. The number one pitfall is getting in debt too deep. Toss all credit cards for sure and don't borrow until you have exhausted every method for getting money.

The best tip is to work in the summer/winter break and save all your money you make. You will then be set for all the parties and bars you will be attending. If you are a women, drinks will usually be free if you play your cards right. You could also call your parents here and there and ask for some money for food and supplies.

The best advice is to pick a major that will make you money!!

Teach yourself to save up for things you want, if you haven't done it already.
Don't let the STATUS bug bite you and make you to think you need to get some new toy just because "everyone" is getting it.
Finally, if your main reason to go to college is for the partying, you might as well stay home and do that for a year. After you get it out of your system, go to school, study and have a good life.

If you are in college...try your best to never use a credit card. Instead try to pay everything with cash as much as you can. Also, try to make and stick with a budget. Simply by doing that will set you up on a life-long healthy financial habit.

Just my two cents...
