The share price times number of shares does not compute correctly and total value of holding is not correct

What values are you comparing? You say portfolio. Do you mean a value computed by your broker verses one reported, say by Yahoo Portfolio?

One common difference occurs if you have mutual funds in your portfolio. The value for them does not change during the day and is not updated until sometime in the evening, like after 6:00 Eastern time. Until that update takes place yesterday's value is used.

Another difference can result from "after the close" trading. If a stock is traded after hours, one place may be using the value at the close and the other the last (after market) trade value.

If you own partial shares, take that into account. Make sure you take into account any new shares received from dividend reinvestment.

It should be share number x current market price.
