I currently have 8 items that are in collections, they are mostly medical bills. Will it help if I start paying these items off or will it be better to leave them alone.

What would work better to improve my credit score. Would I be better off by keeping a zero balance on my credit cards and just using my debit card from my checking account? Or would my score improve faster if I were to consistently put charges on each on of my current credit cards and pay off the balance in full each month?

Back in 2003, I was 23 and made the mistake by getting a credit card with a $3,000 a limit. I lost my job, my car, my apartment. Took me about 4 years to get my feet back on the ground, finish school and get a job starting at 30k. Now the CC is suing me for $6,000 - $3,000 of it interest/attorney fees. I offered the lawyer $1,500 lumpsum. They won't take it. I can't afford to pay the whole $3,000. I barely can pay rent at $600 a month, with food, car insurance, and just started a new job in June? Will they garnish? I don't have any assets and another cc is trying to sue me for $5,000? Any suggestions?

I called up a credit card company whose card got sent to me with my name on it, and wanted them to activate so i recorded my verbal signature over the phone to have the card activated and called costumer support who said they needed my bank account information to activate the card...I never gave them my account information and the card doesn't work, but does that mean i have an active account with them and liable for fees and such??? Or does it mean i have an inactive account if the card doesn't work and not liable for fees?? How do i contact them? They sent me the card, and it only has an activation number on it and i've been trying to find them online but can't find a costumer service number...It's with 1 First National Card.

okay, I used to be in debt with some credit card companies, but all of them are paid and I've been debt free for about two years now. I'm trying to rebuild my credit, but no one will give me a credit card. I'm in no need for a house or new car, so I'm not goin those routes. I have student loans that I'm abou tot have to start paying back....will this help my credit? (I know that paying them back will, duh, and I intent to do so...but will just having a loan that I'm paying on look good?) Also, I attempted to get a credit card and was turned down for these reasons:
-DELINQUENCY ADVERSE PUBLIC RECORD OR COLLECTION
-LACK OF REVOLVING ACCOUNT INFORMATION
-TOO FEW ACCOUNTS CURRENTLY PAID AS AGREED

My credit report says that the delinquencies could be on my record for up to four more years...is there any way to speed that process up?? I mean, I realized I screwed up in the past, and while I'm not looking to purchase a new car or house now, I want to be able to eventually.

I read up on it a little, and sent in a few dispute letters, but it came back as verified and only made it worse >_<. Alot of the derogatory items are outdated, and there's a few things that aren't even mine! How is this coming back as verified? If anyone can shed some light, or knows of a reputable credit repair company, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am applying to rent an apartment and the advertisement said that there was a credit check. The application doesn't ask for my social security number. There is no application or credit check fee. Can they check my credit without my SSN?

I got an annual fee waived for a second card, so now I pay $85 for a card with the exact same benefits of my free gold card. If I cancel the one I pay the fee for, is it refundable?

Why would anyone use these cards? (unless, I suppose, they already have a visa or master card)

The reason I ask is because I was driving the around the other day and really started to notice that more and more people drive very nice cars, many of them people whom I know are not living within their means as it has been shown that most Americans don't. You all know what has happened to the mortgage industry lately right? They basically gave loans to people who really shouldn't have qualified, many of them involving very nice houses. When many of these people couldn't pay for the homes, it caused the economic blow we're seeing right now. Now they say that in the future it may be much harder to get a home loan.

Given all this, here's my question: Do you think the same thing may happen with the auto industry? And soon?

I have a few creidt cards I stopped paying on around January 2005. Some have posted to my credit report (Charged Off) and some have $0 balance and some still have balances posted and 1 is with Arrow Collection Agency. Should I call the companies directly that still have balances posted and try to work out a payment schedule with them or is this opening a can of worms? Also should I call the collection agency and do the same? I havent heard from any of these companies by mail or by phone for close to 2 years. Thanks
