I want to consolidate my credit card and other bills...Would a personal loan through Capital One hurt my credit? The APR is much lower than I am paying on my credit card...at this rate I may not be able to pay the damn thing off until after I die...

Specifically, will making a one time large purchase on your card that will perminately raise the lifetime high balance a death blow to your credit score?

I'm trying to take care of a couple collections, one is $1,287 and the other is $998. The one that is $1,287 they are saying they can offer a settlement of $760 and the $998 said a settlement of $734, but then changed their story 2 days later to $600, then when I told them I only had $400 they said $499 is the lowest they can go. Can anyone tell me the REAL story here? What IS the lowest they can go, I am very broke and I heard they BUY these off other companies for PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR so why can't they just take my $400? Obviously, just like everything else in life, I want to pay as little as I have to. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello to all. I am looking to raise my score to the 775 as soon as humanly possible. I understand each case is different, but would value any general advice out there. Thanks for your time guys.

I've heard stories about some people calling in to the bank and threatening the line operator that if they are not given a fee waiver for the next year, they will simply cancel their card account. Is that true? And if I am able to execute the "privilege" of demanding a waiver, are there any implications or requirements tagged to it?

I would like to lease a car this year for the tax write off. Here's my situation: I owe about $7K on the car, it's trade-in value is about $5000. Is it possible to trade a car in for a lease, or should I sell it, pay the difference and start a lease? I have zero experience on the pros and cons of leasing. Some people I know swear by it, some say I should beware.

Just curious - say you get a credit card that has a low limit, and you are excellent about repaying it in full each month, how long does it usually tale for the credit card company to raise the limit?
