I was thinking, did you ever wonder how Credit
Bureau's were allowed to come into being? Talk about
one big invasion of privacy! You just can't call and
say they're invading your privacy take your name off
of their rolls. That takes an act of Congress, better
yet an act of God!

And heaven forbid your name isn't on their rolls, you
can't buy a thing.

I mean think about it, they know everything, your
name, date of birth, SSN, where you live, telephone
number, where you shop, what you like to buy, what you
want to buy, what you drive, what you owe and where,
etc... The CIA should be so good. LOL

Why is it that you can't even rent a car without a
credit card, even worse rent something as simple as a
movie(Blockbuster, et al)cold hard cash is better is
it not? Doesn't seem so does it?

I know its 7 years (right?) for accounts that arent in good standing, does that also apply to closed accounts in good standing? The reason I ask is I have a lot of accounts on my report that have been closed and in good standing and I dont want the amount of accounts that show up on my report to look bad.

I answered a complaint and filed it with the court. and the lawyers did also. after that I received a date for a non-jury court trial March 2007. then I got a phone call from a paralegal at the plaintiffs lawyers office (same lawyers). asking me questions which I did not answer. I said to him I answered the complaint and that was all I had to say. then, I received these papers told to answer interrogatories. info dated back to when I had the account dated from 1991-2002. its now 2007. info like leases, statements from the account I had with the creditor. deeds, utility bills etc. I have been dealing with the same landlords since 1989. thats the only thing I can think of that they are asking for in terms of where I have been living doing that time. I have nothing else. if I do nothing they said a judgement will be held against me without trial. and they want these answers and info within 30 days. what do I do? any legal advice will be very helpful and needed. Thank You!!

I just pulled my credit report and found that a medical bill that I was not aware of was reported to a collection agency and now that file is closed. There was a balance due of $217.00. Now that the file is closed it has dramatically brought my credit score down by 50 points. Is there anything I can do to resolve this. Will they let me pay the balance even though it is closed and do you think it will improve my credit score any.

Someone told me the agencies normally buy these accounts for a fraction of the amount due, then collect what they can, sometimes accepting half as a payoff amount. If I had had the money, I would have paid it off originally, but right now I'm not even making it paycheck to paycheck and the collections agency will not set up monthly automatic withdrawals or anything other than the full amount. Any suggestions? I'm not debating I owe the money, just can not pay it at this time.

I am helping my husband clean up his credit report. Recently we sent a debt verification letter to a particular collection agency and received no reply. However, an alert appeared on his credit check monitoring account under the "Public Records" section. It contains the name of the collection agency, the date, the type of account, and the amount owed. Can anyone tell me what this means, and whether or not the collection agency had the right to file this alert?

I keep seeing offers for free credit reports. But you always have to signup for a month of service that will continue in perpetuity unless you go to them and tell them to cancel. Is there a way you can get just ONE free copy of your credit report and have no commitment for anything else?

If you are applying for a secured credit card, will they still do a credit check? Are you instantly approved for a secured credit card if you make a deposit.

My fico scores average 660. APR's on the cards are 14.24-22.24% and my secured loan has a 13.95% fixed APR. I took out the loan to cover $1800 for surgery expenses that my health insurance would not cover because of no available credit on any cards. When I was approved for the loan, I asked the loan officer to raise the it to $10,000 so I can use it to pay off credit cards by consolidating the debt. The loan's monthly payment is $235 for 5 years. My credit card's monthly payments are $320. Once the cards are paid off, I will save $85/month and only have one monthly payment to make. My main concern is: 1) Will paying the cards off all at one time hurt my fico score, if so, how should I pay them off over time? 2) Should I keep the cards open to show a low balance to credit limit ratio? 3) Or- should I close any of the cards and/or lower their credit limits? 4) Will having an unsecured $10,000 loan hurt my credit limit to balance ratio? 5) Will having the loan hurt or help my fico score?

By which I mean things like cashback deals on mobile phone contracts where if you want to actually pay the monthly amount you are supposed to pay then you have to keep all the bills (and they know you won't bother) - things like that?
