I just pulled my credit report and found that a medical bill that I was not aware of was reported to a collection agency and now that file is closed. There was a balance due of $217.00. Now that the file is closed it has dramatically brought my credit score down by 50 points. Is there anything I can do to resolve this. Will they let me pay the balance even though it is closed and do you think it will improve my credit score any.

Contact the credit reporting agency and ask them this question. Make them aware that you wish to pay the debt. Then go to the billing department in the hospital and tell them you wish to pay the debt. Be aware they may have sold the debt to a third party that buys old debts with the rights to anything that is recovered.
At this juncture, your credit report cannot be repaired. Just hope it is still the hands of the hospital.

Keep your records and show them to the credit reporting agency and they may adjust your account.

Pay the balance, when they guarantee to remove item from all the credit bureaus.
