I am helping my husband clean up his credit report. Recently we sent a debt verification letter to a particular collection agency and received no reply. However, an alert appeared on his credit check monitoring account under the "Public Records" section. It contains the name of the collection agency, the date, the type of account, and the amount owed. Can anyone tell me what this means, and whether or not the collection agency had the right to file this alert?

I am not sure about this but I do know how or who can teach you how to clean up the report. I bought a set of programs on the web that has helped me alot. and I bought a set for my daughter who filed bankruptcy and now she has a fico score of over 700 from using the programs. They have all kinds of letters in the back on what you can send to the credit bueaurs to clear up things or take off things. Check them out. coming back strong financially
