I have a mortgage and two car loans (for my car and my wife's car) as my major bills. I am working steadily making about 45K a year. I have student loans but they are in deferment while I finish my PhD. By the time I get the PhD I will probably owe almost 90K in student loans. I'm thinking about bankruptcy as a possible way to get rid of the mortgage and car loans and start attacking the student loans.

I have paid off an account in late 2005 but I had some late payments that were more than 90 days late in late 2003. Is it worth going back at this point to dispute those? Unfortunately, being young I wasn't the wisest with financial record keeping so I don't really have a way of tracking those to see if I did pay them or not and if they were missed, it would not have been intentional. My credit is between 610-650 (depending on the bureau) and I am hoping to get it to about 700 by next year. I have not had any late payments since 2003 and I am working hard at increasing the available credit ratio.

it strikes me as odd that people think these companies actually help them...you as a consumer can do anything that debt management companies can do on your own.. As a collector, I understand that bad things happen to good people and they cannot get out from under debt..what a lot of people don't realize is that turning to a debt management company can hurt you even more...by stop making payments on your accounts and let them handle the account is not the way to go...if you are only 30 days behind and they tell you to stop paying because they want to wait until you've saved up enough to settle, this is damaging to your credit because the acct has probably charged off by the time you settle....yeah you may pay less but, you can negotiate with creditors yourself and most of the time prevent the charge off..and not pay a fee...remember, no such thing as not for profit..always someone trying to make a buck!!!

I went online to obtain a free credit report for 30 days free trial membership. It is supposed to be free. They charged my account 12.95.How free is that? I called them and inquried about the reason for charging my account. They said that I already had a free trial in 2005.I did,BUT this is 2006.They said you could get a free report every year. Also why did I have to fill out forms to log in.The representative prompted to tell me that I didn't fill out new forms, because it makes you log in.BULL!!! I know what I filled out.IT SAID FREE F--R--E--E. and I filled out the forms. They just liars

I filed chap 7 in Nov 2004, was discharged in Feb 2005. How do i go about rebuilding my credit and raising my score. I would like to purchase a home soon. I have noticed that some of the creditors included in my BK are still reporting on my credit report or have just started reporting again. Can someone help me to improve my credit because my children deserve a home?

Hypathetically and without going into details, say someone was dieing of a brain tumor and they wanted to get a bunch of credit cards and loans so he could go to Amsterdam, **** a hooker of every race and hair color, smoke a lot of pot, and then put a bullet through his head to make this ceaseless headache stop from behind his left eye. What would he need to do to get the most amount of money without any care for the interest rate or anything that other people normally care about.

He doesn't know if he has any credit history at all. He has never overdrawn from his bank account or anything like that.
