I have been in a full time office job for the last 6 months, and have just handed in my resignation letter, thereby giving my employer 4 weeks notice of my attention to leave my post. This notice of leave will take me towards end of October.

However, I am now having 2nd thoughts and am considering withdrawing my resignation letter. Do you know of any 'standard laws' where employees are allowed to take back their resignation letter or does each employer handle this type of situation differently?

I see a lot of ads in the wanted section of the paper for Vending route drivers. Lots of them have a base salary and then say you earn commish. Anyone try this job before. How much do you usually make per week with commish. Does your salary increase the longer you work there?

I got out of the Navy in Feb. 07 and still in the reserves. But my delima is I've worked as a pest control guy which didn't pay squat. I applied for a distributing company and they hired me and now working longer hours and more stress but a little bit more money. Should I keep looking or focus on sticking with this co.? My wife says I'm a complainer, she doesn't work and I support her and her three kids. I don't know but am very frusterated.

I work at a retail store.
I have on call hours today. I have to call in an hour before to see if they need me at work.
What would happen if I don't call?
I really don't want to work today.

I feel lost as to how to re-enter the working world which I inhabited from age 15 'til I had kids in my 30s. I have a BS in Zoology & an MS in Counseling (but not licensable as a counselor, don't have the requirements) and served in the military (not in a transferable field, of course! Had to stay out of the workforce much longer than planned due to child w/ a disability but really want to return. But to what? I've been looking and it seems like all the professional jobs I see require qualifications I don't have or degrees I don't hold. Due to certain physical limitations I now have, I can't do jobs involving lifting or prolonged standing (like all day) and that further reduces my options. I'd sure appreciate some suggestions particularly if there's anyone out there who's been a SAHM and been able to re-enter the professional world; please no b.s. jokester-type responses because I don't need to be kicked when I'm down. Thanks!

I have a degree in English (Language and Lit. Minor education) and I've been supplying for six years without a single interview!!! I'm tired of never knowing when/if I'm working or what my paycheck will be...I need a real job...the problem is I live in a super small town and the schoolboard is one of the major employers...I've applied everywhere (except for minimum wage jobs) and I haven't even been interviewed despite a huge amount of professional development courses, six years experience, and great references/letters of rec...so now I"m 30, have a university degree and am looking at applying to jobs at THE MALL!!! I need ideas...or at least some 'virtual hugs' of 'it'll-get-better soon'.

I am 57, due to retire at 60, have been a fully qualified dental nurse (had to give up due to health problems), re-trained as a secretary and earned my living for over 23 years doing that, drifted into elecronics and spent several years doing that before studying and working in employment law. I also worked in trading standards before being made redundant. At various times I've worked in an estate agency, local government, property management, and even stacked shelves in a supermarket, all temporary assignments.
On 'signing on' for work (Job Seeker Allowance) I've been asked if I would be willing to re-train, and if not, why not. As what? plumber, brickie, IT, what for heaven's sake?

work there altogether. Is this just the tip of the iceberg of what's to come at this job? I got a 3 paragraph nasty email from a Sr. analyst who I work with. It somehow got passed along to our boss who called us both in her office & more or less reprimanded the Sr. person who saw she did nothing wrong. Everyone else I work with is really great & have heard she likes to intimidate people by cutting them down. I don't want to be miserable because of one unprofessional individual at an otherwise potentially great new job. There always has to be one in every crowd!
