Applying for assistant manager. At most job interviews I'd dress really professionally, but at others I think twice about maybe dressing more trendy or in the store's style.

How should I dress for interview at Aeropostale?

My manager told me that pay day is every Friday. I don't work today so I don't know if I should stop by and pick up my deposit slip. (I decided that Applebee's should directly deposit my checks into my account but I think they have to give me a slip, right?)

If you work at Applebee's or some where similar, where and when do you pick up your check?

Should I stop by during lunch or before the "dinner" shift?

Why do employers deny employment when someone in their opinion is "overqualified". To me that means quite qualified. When I tell them that if they hire me, I won't be looking for another job. This happens regularly and so I have deleted my MA from my resume so I might get a chance. What should one with a BA and MA do when they are applying for a job that only requires a HS diploma or GED. I feel I am doing a injustice to myself by not listing my accomplishments, but at the same time it isn't getting me anywhere. I can't see why anyone would need any degree, because I have been told I have too much education and experience so many times. I realize they think I will keep looking for a job if hired, but I can't get anyone to hire me even though I have toned down my resume. Advice?

Hi,

I'm a highschooler trying to get a summer job at a local starbucks. I've called to follow up two times already in the pass few days, the first time the manager wasn't there and the second time he was busy so the person who answered wrote down a message.

I wanted to talk to him personally to ask politely if he had reviewed my application and that I was enthusiastic and very interested in the job.

I think it would make me stand out more, if I personally asked him if he looked at it.

But I feel like I'm annoying starbucks calling like every other day haha, is this a normal thing to do? I don't want to be too annoying where it makes me look bad. I just want to find out if I got an interview or if I got turned down so I can keep job hunting.

Thanks in advance!

P.S this will be my first job ever. :)

I've put I'm on a pub quiz team (team member, sociable, alcoholic, we always loose.... etc)

Can anyone think of anything else I could put for what a quiz team says about me?
Or can anyone think what else might be included in pastimes for someone that does pretty much everything at home?
I'm a typical English 20-something, I drink too much, smoke too much and try to ignore the important stuff in life! *sighs*
Anything would be quite useful, thanks :o)

My friend manages her fathers business, and they just did a drug test on all staff members, one of the guys results came back positive on various drugs, and apparently he has been taking alot of days off lately (possibly due to drug use) My friend is unsure on what to do with him, she knows she has every right to fire him, but she said that he is normally a really nice guy and hard worker, and think he must be having personal problems to spark this change in behaviour, and doesn't want to sack him as he could just get worse, and it doesn't really resolve any problems, can she order him to do like a rehab or drug withdrawel program to keep his job?? an if so who pays, does the company or should it come out of his wage?? she has called numerous places but cant seem to get the information she is looking for? So I thought I'd ask here for her and see if anyone can point us in the right direction or if any one has had a similar situation occur?? Thankyou :)

1) Theres a portion that asks about previous employment and since I have never been employed before I put down volunteer work. It asks the reason I stopped working there, what should I say if I worked for a week and then the program was over?

2) Also, it asks for any additional information. Since I'm only a student I want to explain myself. So I have:

"As a hardworking and motivated individual I have taken and plan to take numerous advanced and honors placement classes, as well as participated in several extra curricular activities such as model united nations, volunteer work, etc."

Is this too much? How can I improve that so it doesn't sound so pretentious?

Thanks a lot for your help!! I really appreciate it.

I started working with at this company about two weeks ago, and I overheard my mngr trying to get rid of me already. I havent done anything wrong, and I actualy havent done any work yet as I am still being trained. Unfortunately, I haveent meshed well with the team yet as it has only been two weeks. People have been talking about me getting the boot and I have been overhearing my mngr talk to the director about transfering me out of the dept or letting me go. I am tempted to quit as I dont think I want to work for someone who is going to judge me on just two weeks of being in a new job.
What do you think I should do? Should I confront my boss? Should I quit or let them fire me? HELP!

She was told she was being fired for her attitude. No warnings or written warnings. This is all she was told. When she was denied for unemployment the employer who fired her said that she had lied and that was her reason for being fired. We live in MO - the employer doesn;t have to give any reason for letting you go. What would her chances be if she tried to appeal?

I began working at a Walgreens 3 months ago. I just finished the insane initiation fee of 320 bux to join the union. When i was first hired.. i was supposed to be trained in the photo dept. but now since the store was taken over by a new manager soon after i was hired...all i ever do is stay in the front and ring ppl up.. which is typically the job of the "newby" while there is an even NEWER guy working on the floor and being trained in the photo... I feel angery.. fed up, annoyed. Since i am in the union. i basically can't be fired...so How should i go about taking a step up and not letting them shove me to the front.. Im tired of it.. It might even be racial since i am the only white guy amongst almost all filips. any advice would help!

Hello everyone,
I would need some help about this:
I interviewed with a company and I want to send them a thank you letter and put this in the letter:
"I know that you might be looking for someone with a little bit more experience, but I assure you that I am a fast learner/hard worker, and very interested in the position"
Should I not say this? Am I putting myself down by saying this?
The reason that I want to say this is because the job requirement is a little bit more than what I actually have under my belt (I would say I would meet maybe about %80 of the requirements, and not %100 of what they want), and I asked the guy at the end of the interview about how I did, and he said "we might be looking for someone with a little bit more expereince, but we'll talk it over, and I am not the one who makes the call, and I just do the technical interview".
Please help.
Thanks.

I am about to just go try to get a job in retail, but people always ask me what I like to do, and say to figure out a way to get a job doing it! It's not that easy! Any ideas????

My boss offered me a raise. He wants to know how much more I think I deserve. I make $20/hr. right now. It has been over a year since my last raise and I heard every year there is a 5% increase in living expenses. So is $22 to much, too little to ask for? What is appropriate? What do you normally do in this situation?

Is it getting harder to find experienced employees if your company skimps on the benefit package? The reason I ask, is that I am seeking a new job and I have over ten years in my field. So far I've had four companies call me. When chatting with the HR dept during the "pre-screen" call, they have explained that either they do not offer health insurance or that they only offer it to the employee. This is a non-negotible issue for me since my daughter has a pre-existing condition that prevents us from buying private insurance. When I explain, that I am no longer interested in the position they always seem surprised and one was even angry at me.

Is anyone out there running into difficulties hiring because of the benefit package your company offers?

I'm really nervous about working my first job. I'm not good with people at all, and it's a cashier position. I'm also nervous because a lot of people I know from school work there as well, and like I said before, I'm really not good with talking to people, unless they're actually my friends. I'm afraid I'll mess up a lot. The whole experience is making me pretty anxious, but I feel like it's something I need to try out. Any tips or advice?
