I was Navy and spent most of it with the Marine Corps. I was not able to find a good job -- in my field. Something to do with military credentials not transferring over to the civilian market (I was about the equivilent of a Physicians Assistant). I ended up making my own job. So, it depends on what you do in the Army, what your qualifications are and what's available in the civilain market.

The Army probably has much different HR laws than business so retraining might be needed.
Assuming you learned some skills like managing people, and others you may land a pretty good job but getting some classes and experience might really help.
HR managers need to know much more than they ever did before. Between the laws saying you can't discriminate against almost anyone you need to almost be a lawyer to have a job interview. The record keeping to make sure you didn't discriminate, you have to not only track people you hired but people you didn't hire. Where I work we get out of that by hiring union workers we hire whoever they send us so when we are audited it is pretty easy to show we didn't turn down anyone for a protected reason. They do interview some minorities to see if they feel they were passed over for promotion. Having to deal with union negotiation, making sure you layoff and recall employees according to the contracts is another issue. Then you have things like FMLA and Identity theft issues so you must be more careful than ever with personal information. So if a company can find a well trained person they can save tons of headaches so it is worth paying good money for the right person.

If the Army is helping folks nowadays with resume preparation, career counselling, etc., you should take advantage.
Consult colleagues in your target industries to help you modify your resume to correspond to civilian terms.
Likewise review job ads and make sure relevant key words appear in your resume.
Check out military.com and similar websites.
Good luck

Well, It all depends on your academic background and the organisation you want to join. If you''ve had remarkable academic qualifications, you have a chance to be needed by several organisations. But your military background can have both positive and negetive impact on your future employment.
