I began working at a Walgreens 3 months ago. I just finished the insane initiation fee of 320 bux to join the union. When i was first hired.. i was supposed to be trained in the photo dept. but now since the store was taken over by a new manager soon after i was hired...all i ever do is stay in the front and ring ppl up.. which is typically the job of the "newby" while there is an even NEWER guy working on the floor and being trained in the photo... I feel angery.. fed up, annoyed. Since i am in the union. i basically can't be fired...so How should i go about taking a step up and not letting them shove me to the front.. Im tired of it.. It might even be racial since i am the only white guy amongst almost all filips. any advice would help!

That's what the Union is for! Make an appointment to talk to a Union representative at your store. They usually have a few in each store or building who are employees that represent the union and you. Ask for help from them. If precedent has been set in the past that the "Newby's" go to the front and after a certain period of time those who have been there awhile get trained for certain jobs they are interested in it sounds like you definitely have a grievance. Again seek help from your Union.
Good luck to you.!:)

My GAWD you're in the union. Talk to your rep. Of course I have never seen a union do any individual a bit of good. Normally it just deals with pay issues, yours and its. With "its" being the first priority.

I take it you don't have the training promise in writing? If you do, it will help greatly.

Good luck

basically you have no choice but to talk to your manager and tell him that you were really hoping to get trained in the photo area and see if you can start maybe doing some shifts at the front and some shifts in photo
