So I got a job offer with a huge corporation I applied to.. they called me last friday and offered me a position. The lady told me the next step would be to come in and sign all the paper work and they would call me sometime this week... well it's Friday.. and I know I shouldn't call as I already got the job.. but should I be worried?? I'm getting anxious?

I am a college student working part-time for a legal attorney office as an Office Assistant for about 3 months now. When I was hired on they understood that I was a college student going to school and working at the same time, and it was clearly stated in my resume and repeated throughout my interview process. They claimed that they were okay with the fact that I went to school and up until this point have made accomodations with me when it came to school.

When asked about my availability for the upcoming spring semester, I told them that my availability was going to slightly change and now they have a big problem with it. Since then my boss has been nothing but rude and inconsiderate to me, and even told another employee who told me they were going to "let me go when they found my replacement". Is this discrimination and can I file a claim against them with the labor board? Also, will I be able to collect umemployment if they fire me over my school schedule

I started with the company that I work for 2 1/2 years ago. When I got the position it was a newly created position. now the position has definitley more responsibility and duties than before. How do I present information to my boss regarding that the position be moved up a few pay scales because of the changes in duties? Do I start with my boss? or Do I go to HR first? what is the proper way to present this information and who do I contact first?

I don't know any programming languages, but I have 7 years of PC support (tiers 1 and 2), some at the state government level. What would I need to get certified in, or go back to school for to transition over to IT project management? Should I just start knocking out IT certifications and get my MA in Finance? Thoughts?

How do you like your job? What do you enjoy most about your job? Which aspects of your job, if any, do you enjoy the least? How long have you been working as a MLT? And do you work in a hospital or laboratory setting? Any information you could give me and with as much detail as you like to include would be great. Btw...if you're are currently a MLT student if you could let me know how the program is going for you what you like/dislike if you are finding easy or challenging and if it is interesting to you. Thanks!

A friend of mine contacted me regarding this issue because I am in human resources. I don't know how to advise her...she said in 1995, she worked at a store and obtained a stolen credit card that she gave to a co worker and they ran the card up with charges. They got caught and it was a Felony 4. She never got arrested, or went to court but instead she had to go through a diversion program and the case was dimissed. She has gotten several jobs since then. She recently applied for a HR position at an insurance company and on the application, they asked if she ever went through a diversion program and to answer the question honeslty so she said yes. They said she may be asked about the charge during the interview. I looked up her name on the clerk of courts website and it is still there as theft but it says she completed a diversion program and it was dismissed. What should she say if they ask her about the details of it?

Ok, first off I am a hard worker at every job that I have ever had and have never pulled any kind of stuff like this before.

So I've been at this retail job for a few months, and as some of you may know, that in retail business, taking any days off around christmas is like a snow ball's chance in hell. My girl friend's family has invited me to visit Hawaii for christmas! I live in Alabama....and am not very well traveled, and to get the chance to go to Hawaii or continue my 7 dollar an hour job, isn't much of a hard decision.

*My question is, what big excuse can I use to not have to come in for awhile, I will eventually just never go back of course, but I might want to use them as a reference later on.

(side note)Also there is this other guy I work with who basically, me and him have the exact same job there and he seems to ALWAYS have some reason of not showing up to work, making me work twice as hard, and should have been fired several times, yet is still employed.

I put in my 2 weeks notice at my job on 12/12/07, that would have made my last day the 26th. The office is closed on the 24th and the 25th, they are paid holidays, but I was just told today that instead I can make my last day the 21st so now I will not get paid for the holidays, can they do this?? Without actually firing me?

I am the HR Director at my company and yesterday, one of my employees asked me a few questions regarding our policy on unused vacation and sick days. I told him that unused vacation days would be reimbursed to the employee at the end of the year but that unused sick days would not be reimbursed. Not wanting to use his vacation days, the employee responded "Well I think I feel a cold coming on." He then winked and walked away.

This morning, the employee's supervisor told me that the employee called in sick today claiming to have a soar throat. I told the supervisor about the conversation I had with the employee and naturally his supervisor is quite irate and does not want me to pay the employee for the sick day.

I'm not sure what to do about this issue. I do not think I can legally deny the employee use of his paid sick day but I am also sure that he is misusing this benefit. What should I do?

I just started a job at Hungry Jacks two days ago part-time as a crew member, but then decided I absolutely hated it and quit without any notice. i.e simply didn't turn up the next day & unplugged phone. The reason for not giving notice is simply this: the manager was a total jerk and would have abused me had I told him I wanted to resign. I plan on mailing back the uniform and sending in a letter of resignation at some stage if I don't officially get fired before then (not that I care in the slightest). My question is (excuse my stupidity): can they sue me or something for not turning up to the work without any notice? I really don't care about the pay or anything else, I just quite simply DO NOT want to ever see or hear about that place again. I'm trying to pretend I was never employed there, even for a very short amount of time.

Leaving aside how unethical it was to quit without informing them, could there be any legal ramifications?

I have been actively looking for a job since I was let go from my previous job last year due to office restructuring. I cannot find anything I started applying for employment the day after I was let go. I really want to work again. I have faxed my resume, emailed and mailed my resume to companies hoping they might need help. I have answered job ads in the paper and also online on all the major employment web sites where my resume is posted. I have worked in a office for over twenty years my last position was almost seven years. I am also over 50 and i am wondering if my age comes into play. It is really getting frustrating I am on the computer for hours every night looking for a job. I am also signed up with a number of employment agencies I call them every couple of weeks and they keep telling me they have nothing for me. I have applied for many jobs and had only a couple of interviews this past year. I even applied for a couple of temp jobs and I was not called. What should I do.

I would really like to be a nurse, but I have heard horror stories of how female dominated health profession are chock full of gossip. In fact, I used to work at a large vet hospital, where there was only one other guy besides me, and I ended up quitting because the gossipping was so bad.

Will I endure this too as a nurse? I'll have a family by then, so I'm guessing that will help a lot. Still, I can't stand gossip.

Okay so i just recently started working and so far okay i guess after a month that i started working they hired some lady after me and up until this point we are both part time the only diffrence is that this lady is like 20 year older than me and of course she has more experice in the field that we are in but the dealis that she is working 10 hrs more than me.My manger loves her. They talk all the the time after work and i can honestly see her getting promoted before me for he fact that the manger likes her. The less time that that the manger stays on the computer the more possibility i'd be full time and honestly i think ive been doing good and now she wants to put me in the other ladies station and switch her to mine. And give her all th hrs i shoulf be working. If something likethat happens I think i should put in a 2 w notice???? Any Advice

What kind of field is Rad Tech? Is it competitive or is it fairly easy to get a job once you have your degree? What kind of work do they do? What kind of salary do they make? Is this a job that will be around for many many years? Is it better than being a Respiratory Care Therapist?

My boyfriend's boss keeps telling him that the business they work at is NOT loosing money, despite very poor net sales. They almost closed down a few years back, when sales were a lot better than what they are now. Is the boss just lying to my boyfriend so that he wont go looking for another job?
Anyone know if this is a common trick bosses do?

If you go into a place of buisness, fill out an application, the manager looks at it, and then hires you on the spot, what does that mean? Does this mean they are desperate because something is happening in the store to make people quit or management just assumes I won't stay around long?

I have been a dedicated employee. A situation arose at work and I was suspended pending an internal investigation. I was told that I wasn't allowed to speak to any other employee and they were all informed that they were not allowed to speak to me. No communication, not even after work. They are assuming that I violated that rule and they terminated me. I was told that this was the specific reason I was being fired. Is that legal in the state of Texas? I think I have an EEOC case. From what I have read, I have a discrimination/disparate case. I think that my HR department agrees because they offered me a severence package of $3000 plus six weeks of paychecks if I signed an agreement not to take legal action. I told them I would signed if the terms were changed to $15,000 plus 12 weeks of pay and benefits. Does anyone know if I have a leg to stand on?
