If the job is retail (shop assistant, burger flipper), and it is the Christmas season, it just means there is more work than people to do it. Many stores hire as much help as possible from November through January, and a warm body with no arrests is just fine.
Take the job, take the money, look for a better one in a few months.

As someone that has been helping people get hired since 1995 I would say it really depends on the situation. When you know exactly what you're looking for, and it's in front of you, you grab before someone else does.
You also have to use basic common sense. If just anyone can do the job then why wouldn't they hire someone on the spot?
Different situations call for different measures. I have some clients that have made some people go through multiple interviews while others we're hired within days.

Much of the answer depends on the position being filled, the shortage of applicants, the need for a body, the environment, and the location of the store . Good managers do not hire excess numbers of people, They will instead, combine duties and eliminate a person so as to reduce costs. Then again, he may expect too much from his employees for the salaries being paid and loses workers. You will find out.

If they hired you on the spot, this time of year, they need someone to fill specific hours that you are probably available for ASAP. Consider yourself lucky, although in my experience you may be one of the first let go after the X-mas season. It is late in the season to still be hiring seasonal staff. Employee turnover is also HUGE this time of year. It happens, and it most likely is nobodys fault. Anyother time of year I would say that a manager hiring on the spot is either too lazy to do anymore interviews or desperate to fill a position that has been abruptly vacated.

They could just be gearing up for the holiday rush and needed someone, and you were the first one that came in with a new application. They may have just really liked what you put down on it and thought that you would fit nicely into their community.
Either way if you were the one hired on the spot good job I hope it all works out for you.

No place hires you assuming you won't stay. It's definetely to their advantage that you do stay. However if they were that quick to hire you they probably have an extremely high turnover. Fast food? Was there no Q&A? Be careful.
