Ok, first off I am a hard worker at every job that I have ever had and have never pulled any kind of stuff like this before.

So I've been at this retail job for a few months, and as some of you may know, that in retail business, taking any days off around christmas is like a snow ball's chance in hell. My girl friend's family has invited me to visit Hawaii for christmas! I live in Alabama....and am not very well traveled, and to get the chance to go to Hawaii or continue my 7 dollar an hour job, isn't much of a hard decision.

*My question is, what big excuse can I use to not have to come in for awhile, I will eventually just never go back of course, but I might want to use them as a reference later on.

(side note)Also there is this other guy I work with who basically, me and him have the exact same job there and he seems to ALWAYS have some reason of not showing up to work, making me work twice as hard, and should have been fired several times, yet is still employed.

A medical excuse goes a long way, tell then you were in the hospital all weekend, with... research some idea on the net, no hospital will confirm your a paitient due to hippa laws. Also tell them youd be happy to have the doctors office write a letter for the time off he prescribed, fake a letterhead and get a free voicemail someplace explaining the office is always busy to leave a message have a freind record the doctors office answering machine and never answer, your female right, use women problems as a excuse if you have a guy boss they wont want to go into too many details. (1) they may call to confirm, but I doubt they would leave a message :)
I have used this in the past and it works like a charm, type up a little excuse on official looking bond letterhead form a lazer printer and your good to go :) disclaimer, im a dude nad never used the womens issue medical reason before.

There is a man by the name of Gerald H. Powell MD who is going to help you get in touch with your biological mother who left you at birth but is now gravely sick (breast cancer). You have to travel to the Philippines (via Hawaii) in order to track him down so he can reunite you with her. You don't know how you will do this because you have little or no money but God is on your side and somehow you feel that you will prevail. This will be your last chance to find out who mother is. NOW GO GET A TAN, ASSHOLE!!!

Here's a radical thoght, be honest, talk to them.

I love my job but .... is there any chance that I could ....

Or do you want to get time off and not use your leave in which case you won't get any help from me.

apply for the federal family medical leave act, stating a close family member needs for you to take care of them

resign.

references will only confirm taht you worked at the site from time to time. they do not ask a bout your skills. they want to know if you were absent.
not object comment on your abiliyt as they will get sued.
they will only confirm dates.

go for it.
