There is a woman at work who is indirectly racist.

The manager is fed up with her (he has finally seen her true colours) and is going to sack her on tuedays, he said she is unreliable and untrustworthy.

Every month, she says that she is off with period pains and has to take 3 days off a month because of it!! The office is all female. She is going on like she is the only 1 to have periods.

Her kids are always calling asking for stupid things like a bag of crisps. She makes cross country calls to her friends and relatives when the manager leaves to go to meetings.

One time she brought her dog into the office and it urinated on the office floor!

She abuses the internet when the manager is out, one time, she took it upon herself to leave work 30 mins earlier because her man was waiting outside.

Her probation was up in 2wks to be renewed to be a permanent member of staff, the manager is adamant that he if getting rid of her on Tue.

Are we right to get rid of her?

I originally applied for one of five locations near my home, but was asked to take a position at a location 3 hours away with a promise of a transfer when a position became available near home. When I'd ask about a transfer I kept getting told that the situation was fragile, we were under staffed, and if I could hold on a bit longer to get the location stabilized. This happened four times.

My wife has been upset because I haven't been able to help her with things, because I'm either on the bus or working. Yesterday, I had a hard time getting to work, then once there I called my wife about doing something for me, next thing you know we're arguing, badly, for a stupid reason. Then I had an argument with another employee. While arguing with him I had a sort of epiphany.

Here's the scoop: I moved cross country to New York City a couple of months ago without a job lined up. I moved primarily to advance my career in the retail industry. After 2 months of living in this expensive city without a job, I was relieved to get my first offer yesterday for an Associate Merchandise Planner position. Though relieved, I didn't feel too excited. The salary offered was about $5k less than I had hoped, but about $5k more than I was making in my last job in CA. However, I do not have experience in this particular job. My last job was related but not very closely.

It would definitely be a great start, but I don't feel like I'd be totally content with the pay, especially with the cost of living here. It's on the low end for the salary range on salary.com for NYC. I am new to this salary negotiation stuff and would greatly appreciate some good advice. Thanks so much!

5 years ago I had a high paying admistrative job and then for flexability because of putting myself thru school, I started waitressing full time while taking classes part time. I had done that until now where I have graduated with a degree and want to get back into the admin field. I just don't know if I should list the restaurant jobs or how to list them. I know I need to list the old admin jobs-I was there for years-but they were so long ago and I don't want a scroll for a resume! I am thinking of seeking professional help...what do y'all think?

I accepted a job offer through the phone from a HR person. He emailed me all the paperwork, employment package, etc.

Who should I make the Job Acceptance Letter to? The HR person or the Director?
or I should not write it because the start date is less than a week and HR just told me to come in on that date?

Do you think it is fair that some degrees aren't worth anything.
My situation:
I went to a private college and paid $26,000 to go there. I recieved a 2 year associates of science degree in medical asstisting. When I went out to work they were only paying around $8 to $10 dollars an hour. When I was in school I learned to do many things such as Phlebotomy, EKG, Catheters, Vitals, surgical procedures, admin, pharmacy tech, all sorts of things.......... I don't feel like it is fair. $ 8 dollars an hour is only a little more than min wage which is $6.40 an hour. So I am not in that field and I found another job working in an Engineering office making lots more money with benefits. But I guess the only thing I can be happy about is I wouldn't have got the job if I didn't have some sort of an degree. but now I'm stuck paying this money and not being put to use. Do you feel like certain fields are under paid? I feel like I was ripped off!!!!! 2 years of my life and LOTS of hard work for $1

My co-worker talks too much about her personal life with me. She constantly comes to my desk and talks about her daughter, husband, parents, etc.

I don't like to talk about my past or personal life because its painful. I also believe that work and personal life do not mix.

How do I change the subject to profesional topics without appearing too obvious? She does this with everyone and I find it boring and unprofessional.

The interviewer told me I'd hear from him at the end of the month. I've already sent the customary follow up after my interview, but should I send another one in the interim, I feel like he forgot about me.

I'm not going to do it, but it is so tempting. I live in Northwest Florida and it is 59º here this morning and just GORGEOUS. It is one of those days I just would like to call in even though the office is only open a half day. What kind of excuse would you use? Come on be creative.

If there is I can't find it. Been the most useless footnote to my adult time/money wasting.

Are their any college programs where I could put it towards a relevant (usable) 4-year degree? Like para-legal or even social work?

I wish I could choose to go into a field that has high demand, but my only real passion and interests are in art/design. To me, interior design honestly seems the most practical, but is there really enough demand in the job market? I've been asking around and people tell me to go into what my heart is in, and I definitely do strongly lean towards art, though I just don't want to waste my time and effort. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance or advice on interior design and jobs in the art/design area in general.
