Careers & Employment - March 2007

I've had quite a few jobs in my day, but all in a field I have *no* interest in - customer service. College isn't an option for me at this point, but regardless of my personal experience in the computer field, no job will even look at my resume because I don't have that piece of paper.

Any advice on how I could land a job with a good computer/IT company with only personal experience? I live in the Sacramento area.

Do you know of any good colleges in the U.S.? If you do please tell me. Can you also include why its a good school, Im trying to stay away from going to a certain college just because their team is good.

I love to sing...and I'm really good, (and no I don't mean to sound conceited!) So how do I even get started. I am not someone with a lot of money...I have 2 kids! So whats the trick...does anyone know. OH AND don't you have to have money to hire an agent!!

i want to go into the air force academy in 4 years (im a freshman in high school) and i DO NOT LIKE ANY SPORTS. I prefer to train by myself, but it said to get into the community and extra currecular activities. I am in the Science Club and will probably be in it next year and in the spanish club and MAYBE the quiz bowl i dont know yet.

I was also thinking about going to the hospital to do voluteer hours this summer on tuesdays and thursdays for hours.

is this enough time, do you think? is there any ways to get more without having a job-like schedule??

I live in California and im a girl, im going to be 15 1/2 in the summer and im planning to get a job. I promised I would pay for half of my car $$$. I just dont want to go to the job interveiw and have them laugh n be like "ur kidding me rite?" Cause I really dont look like im 15. PS: please no fast food jobs..gross! n also, some job finding websites would be nice too!

I worked with this company for 19 years and they laid me off. I am working only part time now. About 2 days a week. I was told to collect for unemployment for the 3 days off. I applied for unemployment and they approved. But recently the employer forced me to sign for my vacation time and I wouldn't. Then when I received my biweekly check I see that they put in my vacation time anyways for the days I wasn't working. I believe this is wrong. I won't have any vacation time left if I get my full time hours back. This is also will make me look like I am stealing from the government since I am receive checks from them. I don't know what to do now, please can someone point me to the right direction?

I am going to graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education. Throughout my student teaching I have decided teaching is really not for me. I don't have the money to get another degree so I'm trying to find a job that uses my current degree, but that is not teaching.

I enjoy art (photography) and the outdoors, but my parents are not supportive in these careers because they say I won't make enough money and that they didn't send me to school to not have a job.

What ideas do you have for a possible career using an elementary ed degree and my other interests?
