I guess a lot depends on the employer and how good an employee you are. If you leave on good terms, with sufficient notice you may have a chance of thing don't work out.

That would all depend on the individual employer and how understanding they are. Can they fill your shoes if you were gone for a period time, without having to replace you, is this dream achievable and worth the venyure and will it seem so if you were to present it to your employer, or are they going to think it's a silly endeavor and that you simply must not value your position with them...most importantly, don't count on any certain reaction, or outcome after the fact, if you do this, will it be worth it, even if say it wasn't fulfilled and after your return, reguardless of what was said, you no longer have your job, consider carefully and good luck. Myself... I'm getting my own buisness up and running while working full time still, and it's a risk, and rough, and who knows what will happen, it's a bit scary, but we've gotta do what is best for us to be happy within the means of sanity...best wishes
