I have a friend that lives in Georgia. He got fired for "inappropriate internet usage." He was on a break and decided to check his email and update is queue on Netflix. That was it. No porn sites or anything like that. There is no place in his employer's handbook that said they could not use the internet during breaks. Was he treated fairly? Should he do something about it?
Thanks for your help!

I've been jumping through hoops regarding one particular job opportunity for about four months now. I've taken all kinds of basic tests, psychological tests, clerical tests, skills tests, interviews.. and I made it all the way through the last stage. All I'm waiting on now is the yes or no.

I called each time (or sent letters) thanking the HR dept for their time and assistance. I then waited two weeks after my last "hoop" to call about the decision status. Those two weeks were over the Christmas and New Years holidays, so I didn't expect much. I was asked to call back two weeks later.

So I did, and the same lady I've been dealing with the whole time was kind and professional and said "we still don't know, can I call you back later today?" Of course, I said yes. This was last Friday, and she still hasn't called.

Would it be okay for me to call back one last time, "Sorry to be a pest, but I'm really excited about this opportunity?" How should I word the last call? Hints?

Thank you.

I've been in my role for roughly 2 years and have just been offered a promotion out of the blue. I am quite happy in my current role however I can't see myself wanting to do it for more than another 2 - 4 years.
After adding everything up it'll mean that I'll been earning roughly 7k p.a less than I am in my current role. The extra 7k I totalled up comes from overtime (Which I choose to do) and food allowance. I'm really unsure what to do. The new role sounds amazing, and is just what I want to progress to eventually.
The Pros: A more senior role, more of a routine to my day, 9 – 5, opportunity for further progression.
The Cons: -7K
The problem is that my boss has said that there is no budget for an increase in my current salary, and I’ll no longer be entitled to the overtime and food allowance. With a mortgage and bills to pay, I’m unsure that it is a good move to make.
What would you do?

I am 33 yrs old and interviewing for a position in commercial real estate. It's been a while since I've interviewed anywhere and was curious to how I should address the interviewer/potential new boss during the interview and with a follow up thank you note. Do I address him as Mr. or call him by his first name. The new boss is 7-10 years older than myself.

The reason I ask is I worked for one of the largest US investment companies for a number of years and everyone was addressed by their first name (even the CEO). Also, all of the institutional clients we worked with were all referenced by their first names only.

I got employed as a receptionist in August, by October the Secretary was terminated for leaking confidential information. By the 2nd week of January i got promoted to Secretary.

Some how i feel like i cost the secretary to loose her job.On the day before the fiasco began, it was way past closing time and the secretary went her own way off the premises with one of the agents so i called one of the manager and explained the situation to him (keep in mind that i have no keys to lock up). The next day when they questioned the secretary about the conversation she had with the Agent, she said it was business related but she could not disclose the content to management. Should i feel guilty or responsible for that?

Do you do anything to "get back at" your boss for being insensitive or for taking you for granted. When mine gets especially aggravating, I go take a walk at the park near the office . One of my co-workers has a small liquor cabinet hidden on the premises and she makes mini martinis for everyone. Another co-worker sneaks off to the storage room and gives herself manicures. Another takes the afternoon off, says she's going to "work at home", but she actually goes to the movies.
