They will take you seriously, but they will likely pass on your resume for being overqualified, for thinking you will want more money than they are willing to pay you, or because they believe the job won't be challenging enough for you.
If you explain that you are looking for a change of pace, love animals, and aren't worried about the money, they would love to get their hands on you. For whatever place you are hiring for, follow the same pattern of explanation outlined above (even if it is a bit of a lie) and they will take your app. seriously.

Absolutely yes! 51 is really not that old in the grand scheme of things, considering how many boomers are turning 50 every day! I am 46 and started a home business in the health and wellness industry and found out that most people I know are looking for health and anti-aging. I market only one product but can't keep it on my shelf! This is perfect for any boomer.

It shouldn't be a problem as more and more manufacturing positions are being eliminated. Places like walmart and pet smarts are used to high employee turnover, and they understand that people go through tough times. I'm sure they'll love to have someone with your experience on the team.

i am 53. i lost a good job awhile back and i have to say it's not easy. this is a tough age to be looking for a job. you know you are qualified for jobs but you just don't seem to get the chance. i applied once at Lowe's for just about any kind of position and did not get hired. i have over 20 plus years experience in retail. i see some of the people they hire and i wonder to myself how can they pass on me. i know retailing, i know how to take care of customers and they hire people who don't have a clue. just hang in there and don't get down on yourself.
