I was in the Navy for six years, and went through the Navy's NDT courses, and left the Navy with the primary specialty of HT 4944 and HT 4942. Was wondering what I would have to do to get involved in Non Destructive Testing now that I'm no longer in the Navy.

I am currently working for a solo lawyer. While I love my job, I often wonder if it is the right move to stay in such a small office (it is just myself and the attorney). Part of me thinks that it is good because I can honestly say that I run the office without help from supportive staff or upper managment, but part of me also thinks that if in the future I deceide to change jobs (as might be necessary - boss is looking towards retirement) that a larger firm would not look so highly on small firm experience. What is your take on this? Just for further info - I have been working at this job for 3 years. Prior to that I was with a mid-sized firm for 2 yrs and a solo practitioner for 1 yr prior to that. My ultimate goal is to become an attorney, so I am further confused if it would be worth the change as this is not going to be my career (I mean being a secretary/ofc mgr).

By the way, what would be the going salary for someone with my experience in a larger metropolis (i.e. DC or SF)?

Well, I have heard plenty of "the coporate world is full of to many arrogant people; jerks-big egos that think that you should know their name", and I have also heard that most of the time they're are some shady people in have to go through in order to get your big break-that including your boss and politics is something you have to learn to stand or you won't survive-cut it. Is the coporate world that bad to work in?

Who can I talk to about reporting someone who is faking a back injury? This person is making everyone at work's life a living hell by telling them to get to work and what to do but they don't do a thing because they are faking a back injury. They say they can't pick things up yet I've seen them pick up their 3 year old child. I told my supervisor about this and she said she knows but she doesn't do a thing about it. I hate that I am working my butt off and so are other ppl in my dept. but this person is getting paid MORE and is lying about being hurt. I confronted this person and they told me that it's their business what they do outside. Fine by me but don't tell me "To get to work" When I DO my job. They are not my boss. Why is it ok for them to not be able to lift things at work but at home it's ok? I don't think. I thought when you were on restriction that might because you are not able to do something IN or OUTSIDE of work. So how do I report this?

I've heard that funeral homes are usually family owned/run and it's hard to get a job in a funeral home or as a mortician if you're not related to whomever runs it. Are there any respectable chain funeral homes that don't necessarily work this way?

I fired an employee (my daughter's sitter) yesterday for insubordination. She called me this morning all apologetic, but still was defiant over the phone. Her husband has called to talk to me and agrees with me that she needs a serious attitude adjustment. Before I fired her yesterday, she brought up a black-white race issue with me. That really hurt bad.

On one hand, she's an excellent CNA sitter with my daughter. On the other hand, she totally disrespected me and I just can't get past the disrespect I saw yesterday and the racial indication that was brought up in the conversation.

My husband said we need to think about it for a week, but should I even reconsider her working for me?

Thanks for your input.

I am a receptionist and also a college student. This is my second real job( 9 to 5) in 4 years. I have only been here a short time but I am barely making 20K a year and want to ask for 23.5K a year really soon. Lot's of positions in my area(Atlanta) start off at 30K. Should I wait around for them to offer or should I ask first or is that insulting to the boss?
