I just recently moved to Northern VA - my parents just bought a house here. My question though is more career related: I work in property mgmt. and am getting the opportunity to move to the next level if I stay in VA, but my title can't move up until March, but my pay and responsibilites are getting better. Now, my boyfriend lives in San Jose and I found an opportunity with the company to move there - the pay will be about the same, but I won't be on a "higher" level - I will be doing what I do now. I'm also concerned about making my bf move to the DC area bc he has a lot of great opportunities in CA, but he won't have that many opps. in the DC area. Also my family and friends are here. I'm just not sure which option to go with: move up in DC or relocate to CA and make just as much money, just not have the title. I would be able to get the title by May in CA so I'd be pushing my career a few months back; is it worth it? My company and my bf are letting me decide between CA and VA!

What type of work experience do you think is more likely to help me work up to a better position? Working in a less known company and performing a multitude of duties or working in a well known company and likely performing fewer duties?

The thing is my employer is a very nice guy, but his business hasn't been doing real good in the past few months. He has written bad check (payroll) to me and other co-workers, and the thing is that we cannot cash it without a charge from a bank since there is not enough fund in his account.

Even though he is a nice guy, but he seems that he doesn't care about his employees at all. He acts like a high roller, but doesn't money to pay his people. What am I supposed to do in this situation? We haven't got paid for two payroll now? I have my paychecks, but if there is no money in there, it's just like a piece of paper. Should I confront him?and what is the best way?

I find events/seminars/training courses scary when it comes to the coffee break as this is the usual networking section. I clam up, find it hard to speak to people. once I get the courage and ask "what did you think of the speaker" or some such question I then run out of the next thing to ask and feel really paranoid. Any tips please?

Hi Friends, i have completed my BCA (Bachelor or computer applications) course in 2002. Then i worked in a call center for about 3 years.

Now, after having gained enough working experience, i think i should pusue my studies further in management course (MBA). But then i think as i have tech degree (BCA), i can also go for MCA. Can you advice me as to what should i choose and what are the good schools/colleges to pursue my studies? I am in ahmedabad, Gujarat.

What are the job prospects after completing MBA? For which post I should apply?

Thanks.

Hi, Trying really hard to get a new job as th eone i have at the moment isnt working out. I was wondering, is it worth applying ot a call centre or cinema as I am doing my degree with the open uni in my spare time, and knowing that the job I apply and accept, no matter how crap it is, is really a means to an end , so the crap factor wouldnt matter in the long run?

Does any of that make sense?

I am new to the job and the company and feel that the staff I am now trying to manage are 'ganging up' to see how I will react. The latest is that I've asked them to complete a spreadsheet but they are refusing to do it, at least without a detailed explanation of why the data is needed. This is the first time I have ever managed anyone and I don't want them knowing that I'm feeling completely bewildered by their aggression.

A month ago I asked my employer for days off that I needed because im schedualed to go to school for my Mortgage Broker License. This class is a weekend class. I work saturdays so I have tuesdays off to make up for it. So I switched tuesday with my co worker for friday of this week so I can go this weekend to my class. But saturday I dont have off and they wont give it to me either. I am also moving into my new apartment this weekend at the same time that I have to go to school. I have tried numerous times to ask for saturday off to go to my class but they wont give it to me. I really feel like this is so inconsiderate so im planning on taking a sick day. My employer would already know that im taking that day off for school because I have already requested it, so most probably I would either get written up or fired. I really cant lose this job because its the only job thats keeping my head over the water so I need to have a doctors note so they wont have a reason to fire me. Help!
