Hi, Trying really hard to get a new job as th eone i have at the moment isnt working out. I was wondering, is it worth applying ot a call centre or cinema as I am doing my degree with the open uni in my spare time, and knowing that the job I apply and accept, no matter how crap it is, is really a means to an end , so the crap factor wouldnt matter in the long run?

Does any of that make sense?

I currently work as a learning support with special needs adn although I do love the students I work with, I also feel that my talents and input, are being used as I am only a lowly (in their eyes), support assistant. So i know i would be taking a step down in career and whatever, but its a measn to an end? I cant bear waking up adn going into work, but thast due to problems that I have been having recently in work. And although they seem to be resolved, (notice I say seem?), I still feel alot was said adn done for me to enjoy being in my job for much longer. I am only hanging on as I have a 2 week break at xmas coming up.

If you think you might be good on the phone, then maybe call centre work is the way to go - especially if it won't be forever.

Many large companies have call centres and it's a way in to a big complex organisation where other types of roles come up frequently. Once you're in and proving yourself to be reliable and good at what you do, then you'll have an inside track with these jobs. I've seen it happen many times. Some are contented to sit and some get the job intending to use it as a stepping stone.

The other good thing about call centre work is that once the day is over, you don't have to think about work - it finishes with the last call and there's nothing to take home, keep working on or worry about.

Depending on the sector, you could do inbound calls only and not worry about having to cold call and sell (insurance, banking etc) and some offer good bonus/commisssion schemes on top of basic salary.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I think I understand what you are saying, however, it will factor into it because you need to be in a job where you are happy working there, even if it is just a means to an end. If you have a job at the moment stick in until something better comes up because you really don't want to be stuck in a rut in a job you hate. This often has a knock on effect and other aspects of your life may suffer for it.

hmm well iam half in you shoes but half not. As iam trying actually trying to find a job as iam not in one at the moment. Quite frankly If I was in employment and had money coming in from that job i would stay with that job because I have a mortgage debts a useless pig of a husband and a 3 year old child to take care of.

I would stick in that dull job I have and not try to find a new one as jobs are really hard to find and it is such a struggle especially at this time of year when people need money .

What you can do is try registering with agencies and website search enginesd or go back to college and train in a new skill that get syou the job you want anyway best of luck duck .

Is it fair on a future employer to employ you with you knowing full well that this will only be temporary position.
If you are dead set against carrying on in your current employ, then may I suggest an employment agency that specialises in your chosen field.
Try and stick it out at least until you are qualified enough ti demand a change to your circumstances.
With the current tidal wave of foreigners pouring across our borders at the moment, you would be wise not to flit from one job to the next.
Having said that, teaching AND teaching assistants are very noble career paths to take.
If you can stand the little blighters you will be teaching!
Good luck with your future.
Lemme know what you decide p-lease as I have recently undergone a major change of employment too.

Go temping as it doesn't mean you are stuck there forever.... Try to temp in your chosen field in a lesser capacity than your final expectation, and you may even be offered a permanent position.
