I've been curious about this for sometime now. The "traditional", almost stereotypical idea of work are people in suits who go to work at a nice office or firm, and have one of many little square cubicles.

I see this all the time. And yet I wonder, what type of jobs actually invovle this? What type of work entails that seemingly universal idea?

And also, how many people actually work at jobs like that? When I think of work, I always imagine professors, doctors, lawyers, even real estate agents, who don't work in that manner, as far as I know.

Just curious. Thanks for any responses.

Okay. For starters, I hate my job. I'm a 35 yo, single-dad of two, with a mortgage. My job is a deadend. Before this, I was on my way onto something worthwhile but don't know if it's worth pursuing. I was accepted to nursing school but turned it down for the instant money. I'm looking at trying again but keep reminding myself of the 2 year committment. Is trying to find my bliss worth all this BS or should I stick with my loser job. Anyone else out there in a similar quagmire i.e. trying to find their bliss? Honest answers please.

When employers ask you "tell me about yourself"?

I know they are not expecting your lifetime story, but what should

you say. what do they expect from you to say?

Thanks!!

Man, everytime she comes out of her session (she's a doctor) she comes right up to my desk to snoop around (as I'm sitting there). She will look over my shoulder to see what I'm doing, read my messages, ask me too many questions, and basically just annoy the sh*t out of me. How do I get her to step back?

Why do personalities, egos, grand-standing, and power-plays make one's work life so darn miserable?

Why can't people just get along? Do their jobs, and co-exist without having to stomp one another?

I'm 16 and I need money very badly. I have applied for jobs eveywhere within walking distance from my home multiple times but with no luck. My counsoler at school told me that she cannot help me. I think my best option is babystiing. However, I am an only child and the youngest in the family. I don't know anyone who has kids. I have never spent time arounds kids before. I have no experience and no idea what to do. I wanted to take a babysitting class but they only accepted ages 13 and under. Both my parents are unempolyed and I want to go to college so I need money. Do you have any advice on how I can start babysitting?

My boss has been feeling a little down lately, and I'd like to do something special for her or get her something special to boost her spirits and to let her know that I appreciate everything she does for me. I'm only looking to spend around $5-$10. Any ideas???

I did 3 interviews with a company last week. I'm more than qualified (but I don't think overqualified) for the position, and one of the people who called my references acted like it was a "done deal", that I would definitely get the position I'd interviewed for. I didn't...is it unprofessional of me to ask why I didn't get it?

I've never worked in a small company so I wanted to know how it is like to work for a small company before I make this move.

Currently, I work for this global wide company where I am being paid "little less than ok" slary. Recently, I've came across this oppotunity to be part of this company that has been up for about 5yrs and there are about 5 people working all togather.[Biochemical company]

They do not have 401k or health insurance, however they are willing to pay for the health insurance after I find my own. Salary will be about $10k/yr higher than now, and this seems like a good oppotunity to grow with the company. On the otherside, I'm not sure of their policy on layoffs, vacation, etc etc... If I do stay in a large company, I am pretty secured at this point.

I am married, my age is in middle 20's, and living in an apartment with no kids. Should I take this chance?
