Your skills - briefly
and your experience - briefly
Then talk about how you feel each will help you perform in the position you are applying for.

An active lifestyle helping others is not a negative. Tell about your community activities that help your neighbors. That is a hint. Find nice things to do. Volunteer in the schools and with the scouts. Join a civic action group which wants to increase parkways and riding paths.
Do not emphasize that you are in the National Guard ready to help when disasters strike. That means that adjustments have to be made in work schedules and you may not be there all the time but they would have to hold your job for your return. You have to put it down as a part time job. But do not emphasize it.

This is my standard reply, I'm not suggesting that it works for anyone else.
I'm here ahead of time every day, do the job, mind my own business, and try to get along with whomever I can. I expect to be part of progress in my work environment and I don't like no for an answer. I will be the best at what I do and endeavor to improve my methods as well.

Basically you should tell them the highlights of your education and career.
Try emphasizing on your strong points and also mention your weakness in such a manner that they seem good - for example, say that you are a stickler for punctuality and hate to be late or that you dont work good when not given deadlines.
You can also give them an idea of how you will function in the job you are applying for - whether you are ateam player or prefer to go alone, whether you are a go-getter or someone who doesn't lose his cool in a crisis.

When I interview someone I want to hear things like, I am organized and a self starter. Don't give personal information. Be able to talk about positive aspects of your personality without over exaggeration and sounding like your bragging. Good luck.

When I ask this question I am usually looking for the likes, dislikes and attitude of the person I am interviewing. I also like to hear that they are looking to start or step up there career. Keep it simple, honest. And you should do well.
Good Luck

They are expecting you to say briefly what you do when away from work (hopefully something interesting), and your career aspirations. Keep it short and interesting, they do not want to know that you take work home with you, they want to know what the "real" you is - your personality.

They want to know your personal interest, what you do in your free time, do you have a family, etc.
