I'm 16 and I need money very badly. I have applied for jobs eveywhere within walking distance from my home multiple times but with no luck. My counsoler at school told me that she cannot help me. I think my best option is babystiing. However, I am an only child and the youngest in the family. I don't know anyone who has kids. I have never spent time arounds kids before. I have no experience and no idea what to do. I wanted to take a babysitting class but they only accepted ages 13 and under. Both my parents are unempolyed and I want to go to college so I need money. Do you have any advice on how I can start babysitting?

Check with your local hospital- many offer baby-sitting classes. Once you go through one of these classes, you can send out flyers or "advertise" through the hospital. You could look into any local "Mom's" clubs and ask them to get your name out to their members. A lot of these clubs have websites, so if you can find a local club you can send out an email to the president or something. Good luck!

One thing that you might want to consider is maybe getting a job that is on a bus route or somewhere that you can get to by public transit. The places near where you live are all filled up but I'm sure if you looked in the paper there are probably jobs at your local mall or something that isn't close to you. You have to spend money to make money, remember.

As for the babysitting thing, maybe ask friends if they have any family members that might need an occasional babysitter for nights out or whatnot. Get a few people because then you can get some pretty steady work between 3 or 4 families. If that doesn't work, then put out flyers at local grocery stores and hopitals. You should be able to get something.

Also, for experience, I agree that you should call your local hospital and they could probably give you some places that would do a course for people your age. If you get a family in the mean time, try for families with older children, 3+ (they are much easier than under that age), and then ask the family for a crash course in meeting the kids, seeing the house, etc before you actually start on your own.

Good luck!!

first you need to find some small children to be around to see if you like being around kids, you have to know someone who has kids, then offer to watch the kids for free for an hour or while the run a quick errond, explain that you would like to gain experience, also i suggest you take some CPR classes and maybe some basic first aid classes, some times they are available for free through your local YMCA or community college, you have to put yourself out there and make your services known to parents and word of mouth is the best reference, so take the initiative to introduce yourself to parents and get going on the CPR course that is important, and you could also apply at local daycare centers, that might be your first stop.... good luck

Okay, so you need to 'get the word out'. Are there places that you can advertise yourself as a babysitter? I wonder about the size of your community and how many possible clients you'd have. That will have an affect on the response you'll get. Churches might have a need for a babysitter...during events or classes. Good luck.

if you have no experience with kids your probably better going to mc donalds or burger king or KFC or walmart, babysitting isn't an easy option it would be different if you were looking after relatives and were used to them and they did as they were told, however your more likely to discover they are trying to burn the house down and your the one gets the blame and has to pay to repair the damage their darling children have done
