I used to ask myself those same questions. Then I realized I wasn't going to change the corporate world so I had to examine my options. I chose to start a home business and really make it work while creating leverage and building residual income. I bought books on the subject and found out that there was a whole new world out there which was completely different from the corporate world we were all brought up to believe was going to make us happy healthy and wise. Once I took control of my destiny, I started earning more money than I ever did at a job and gained freedom I never thought possible. No more being nervous and asking (begging) for time off for anything. I now decide these things for myself. Don't get me wrong, I work just as hard, but it is with extreme pleasure because all the fruits of my efforts come to me....the boss.
There is a book called Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker that I highly recommend. That book opened up this new world to me, and I found the vehicle to take me through this.
Life is good now!!

Interesting comments. You're right. It's a place a lot of people would like to work at. I imagine it's far from idyllic. Maybe because a lot of these people will be gone with the purges. Just because they're there doesn't mean they're an asset to a smoothly run operation. Hope things work out, ultimately? Self employment beats it all.

1. Corporate controls your $$$
2. They control how much you work
3. They control who you work with
4. They control who stays/who goes
I could continue but I won't.
These reasons and more are why I started working for myself.
Now I help other people just like you reach a certain financial level per month and then leave them with a tough choice to make.
Keep their current job or work for themselves and make a 6 figure income within 1-5 years!!!
Ask yourself:"What will I be doing in 5 years from today?"

People who are into the BS of the cubical world are playing out the dramas of their personal lives. Those who suck up endlessly never felt loved by one, or both, parents during his, or her, childhood. The bully is dealing with feelings of inadequacy that began in child, due birth order issues -- possibly a middle child. He, or she, continues playing this out into adulthood by choosing overbearing, withholding partners. The grandstander is just an as'hole. But that's just my theory.

that is the exact reason I ditched the corporate world and now work in an office with 4 people. The less people around, the less stress there is!

don't bother yourself they're but a vex to the core of the spirito. it use to be where there was a democrat or a republican and now it's a corporate world, it's now the leader of the expensive world and either you c.e.o'd into it or you're enslaved into it. get out. i did. the money is gone but my freedom is back, i now just manage, but it seems that's all i did then. i'm happier. cannot wait for the nitemares to cease, it's been about 4 months. i'm happier, i'm nicer and i wear jeans again...

Because many upper management types have messiah-complexes.They lose their humility and their perspective at a certain point in their rise up the corporate ladder. They forget what it's like to be a regular employee.

I was a manager at a corporate retail chain. It sucked terribly for all the reasons you listed.
People get an idea in their head that they must outdo others and all their morals fly out the door.

Corporate types are idiots. They can't even open a bloody door to get in or out of a building. They can't read. I think it's the lighting...
