I have always wanted to be a journalist but have never had the guts to put myself 'out there'. However, I would really like to change careers and am wondering how easy it would be to make a move into journalism - probably magazine.

I live in London and currently am looking at taking a part-time training course while I continue with my current job and maybe get some work experience - so far I have only had one article published although I do a lot of writing for work. I also have a degree in English.

Any advice anyone could provide would be seriously appreciated. I am also slightly concerned about a drop in salary so anyone who knows how much junior reporters would earn/how quickly they could be promoted I would be grateful if you could let me know.

I applied for a job but instead of phone call they send me this "application process" card that besically says 'we got it, don't contact us, we will contact you'. My husband says that they usually send those cards when they are not intending to take you for an interview. What do you think?

Someone suggested that I look for jobs where size doesn't matter. I found that to be intriguing because I am wondering what companies care less about your size?

Any ideas? I think that if they're offering health benefits they will DEFINITELY pay attention to size because even healthy obese people trigger health issues (eventually) and their benefit costs will be more than a generally thin healthy employee.

I know the answer to this question but would like your input and honesty. Upon interviewing for several job opportunities and having the qualifications for the position, I'm beginning to realize that when I was thinner, I didn't have this much trouble.

I have a colleague in my office who is NOT doing his job and whenever I as a colleague who is suffering due to his not doing the job, ask him to do the job, he simply tries to win my sympathy by stating his physical, personal, family and other problems which got nothing to do with the job. How can I tackle with this guy? Should I report him to the senior management or just keep quiet? The senior management is new and don't know much about his work inability. Should I wait for the senior management to find out about his not working themselves or should I report since my own work is suffering?

I have two employees and one of them performs better than the other. I want to give a higher raise to recognize performance. At the same time I dont want to de-moralize the other person who happens to be a friend of the good performer. All company rules about pay confidentiality will not work between them, I know. Both of them currently work for same pay in similar roles and have same exp level. How do I manage this?
