I know the answer to this question but would like your input and honesty. Upon interviewing for several job opportunities and having the qualifications for the position, I'm beginning to realize that when I was thinner, I didn't have this much trouble.

Unfortunately, you are correct. If this world was a perfect place, you wouldn't have to worry about such things as this. People who need to have special recommendations for them will be on the receiving end of a lot of criticizm from employers. If you could prove that someone is not hiring you because of your weight, you could file a lawsuit against them. Ask employers if they are an equal opportunity employer, or find out before the interview. Positions should be based on merit, but some of the employers may take the equal opportunity stance for their benefit. This may help you, since not hiring someone because of their weight is illegal. I don't know if you would want to give this a shot, but you could ask the employer if they are an equal opportunity employer... they might understand why, or you might have to explain it to them. This is just around the corner, I believe, when people who are equal opportunity employers take into account the merit of obese or overweight people for their positions.

To add to Jizzmoppers answer i'd also like to say if the positon you're applying for offers a health insurance policy, Obese people are more likely to be unhealthy, Therefore cost the company more...

to be completely honest if i had a person of healthy weight with slightly less qualifications then the obese person, I'd employ the healthy one, Obesity shows lack of motivation and self control unless of course there is a medical reason for it, Which least be realistic, There usually isn't... I used to be quite large myself, And if i can do it, Anyone can do it!

it's very sad but true, society has stereotyped the big person as lazy, lack of energy, less attractive etc. that maybe so for some, but some big people are fitter than some thin people and can perform better in some areas. it is time that we stop looking at how big or how a person appears physically and concentrate on what they can actually bring to the table at a job, in our sad state of affairs, if u're realising that your weight is a problem, and loosing some will help u earn one, just loose some.

i'm a big person also. i do believe we are looked at differently than thinner people. especially places that have small quarters like checkers. big people do take up more room. and when you got to move fast, face it we don't move as fast as thin people. it is wrong be we cant change it. look for jobs where size doesn't matter. plus personality and confidence in yourself goes a long way in job hunting. good luck.

YOU MAY THINK YOU HAVE THE QUALIFICATIONS, BUT MAYBE THEY DON'T THINK YOU DO! THE JOB MARKET IS VERY COMPETITIVE THESE DAYS! I THINK THE ONLY WAY OBESITY WOULD IMPACT A JOB OFFER IS IF YOUR MESSY! IF YOU ARE A CONFIDENT, INTELLIGENT AND PROFESSIONALLY DRESSED OBESE PERSON, I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

obesity should certainly diminish your chances of getting a job

people who are fit have more energy than fat ones do and are thus more capable of performing work tasks
