Got married this year in September. He made 120K (income & investments). I made close to 90K. We just closed on a house in October (300K). For 9 months out of the year my W4 withholdings were single/5. His were single/1.

I'm concerned

1. I didn't have enough taken out because I was claiming for myself and children. before i was married this worked out! I got some $ back.

2. Can we get any credit for closing costs and taxes paid on our home?

3. Will charitable gifts reduce our tax liability? around $5000 given this year.

4. Are we better off filing joint or separately?

I'm scared we're going to have a huge tax bill come tax time.

I have had legitimate reasons for leaving; the infastructure changed, one wasn't entirely in my field, etc. I have always gotten another job within a month, so I assume that will help prove my responsibility. Plus, I now however have been at a job for a month- the pay is good, and it is a stable company, so I can't see myself leaving. I fear that because of my "unstable" work history, I may not get approved for a loan and I have found a house in Atlanta that is perfect for me; great neighborhood, ideal schools for my daughter, etc. Will this pose as a problem or am I worrying about the wrong thing?

I have been working my butt off to try to find a good credit card with high rewards.

Surprisingly it's tough to find a good one to use toward a car rebate; apparently car manufacturers have been staying away from or abandoning that trend. It seems like a great idea though -- the only way the person would use the points would be if the person buys one of their cars. Quite a good deal I would think, but they don't seem to agree.

So what is out there? I know we can use a GM card to save a little on a GM car, but the amount we may use varies from vehicle to vehicle and typically seems like a small allowable amount. Perhaps we might as well forget the whole thing and buy a Honda every 5-10 years or so?

I did my taxes with a tax program to get a clear picture before the year ends.
I'm an employee who started my own business, but it didn't do good, so I'm trying a different thing that requires at least $25k investment in equipments. I'm thinking of doing one now before the year ends for 8k, which will put my business at a loss of $15k, but will return a tax refund of $4k.
What I am concerned is how will the irs take this?

Yeah, my daughter recieved a gift from a relative, but it's not something she wanted. Anyway, I'm going to try and return it, but unfortunately we don't have a gift receipt and I don't want to ask for one. I know I cannot get a cash return, but will I even be able to get in store credit if I don't have a receipt?

I shipped something through priority flat rate envelopes on Dec 18 and 19. The one sent on 18 was OK and the status was updated to delivered. However the ones sent on 19 were not updated after Dec 19. The status is still "processed" after five days. One of the intended receiver told me that they did not get the envelope yet. What should I do now?

I was at a club on Saturday and paid for my drinks with a tab totally around 30 some dollars. However, I check my account today and this place took out $100.00 in a separate transaction which I did not authorize whatsoever! Its Christmas Eve so I am not sure how quickly I can resolve this, but I am so nervous they are going to not believe me and I am beyond upset since $100 to me is a lot of money.

Most specifically, that involve being on boats. I'm not really looking for something that's science related, more like cargo, or shipping or something. Hell, anything'll do....but I'd prefer the latter. Thanks in advance. Oh, and please don't say pirate. I'm looking for something modern. Thanks. ^_^

I was recently terminated from a job where I did not get along with certain people. I heard from one person where I was interviewing at that when he called the department manager of where I previously worked he was saying all kinds of bad things about me. Some of these things, like saying that I did not have the job skills, are blatant lies. I have certification that proves I have the skills and there wasn't ever a time when I wasn't able to do my job. It makes me mad that he should tell lies about me. What can I do about this.

In 4 months I will have a degree in finance from an accredited top 50 business undergrad program. However, for the finance field, my grades are sub-par to say the least. I have a natural talent for business in a general sense and I guess because of this, I lack concern and focus in school. (stupid.. i know). I have started 2 companies. One was a learning experience, the second was successful. And as of lately, i have been actively trading the forex market. My returns for the past 2 years have been nearly entirely positive and my percentage return since i began is pretty large. I have been trading for a good ten years now and I think ive finally reached the point where I can consistently make positive trades.

My question is: What is my best plan of action as a student who will soon be graduating? I am a person who cannot sit at a desk getting paid an hourly wage to make some other person money, but I kind of feel like I would be better off gaining experience as an employee
