Just had a Southern Electricity sales agent knock at my door this morning and, although never being supplied by them, they knew the name of the person who lived there in advance. Does anyone know how this information would have been obtained, and more importantly, whether any rules were broken?

I work for another energy supply company and already knew that I could save a bit of money by going to them, but I'm happy where I am. I know what the deal is regarding erroneous transfers and I have energywatch's phone number.

I find it quite disturbing that if they can find out who someone's supplier is (which I know you can), and if they know your name (which they can obviously do, somehow) then there's nothing to stop them getting a load of contracts - and a lot of commission for that matter - and just leave the company before being fired for mis-selling.

I'm having my kitchen renovated by a licensed contractor. The contract states that I'm responsible for purchasing the materials. I pay him labor only. He is charging me taxes also. Is that legal?

When can I fill out an SS-8 form? Basically, I believe I was an employee and not a contractor. Should I fill out this form and mail it in before I file my taxes?

Thank you.

I have $16,000. I am going to use this money on debt but I don't know which avenue I'm going to take.

Option 1- Pay 16,000 on a 28,000 car loan w/ a montly payment of $513.00

or

Option 2-Pay off some credit card debt. If I do this, it'll leave me w/ a montly payment of 1100. I'm in the hole big time over here.

Either way, I am having trouble paying both..and I'm looking for the best way I can to try to have more money in my pocket each month. I have a good feeling in a month or so I won't be able to pay the credit debt at all.

Which is worse, a default on credit cards on your credit report or a repossession of a vehicle?

I have heard report once that certain modular homes can withstand hurricane wind. my friends and co-workers keep telling me how nice they are and I went to see one and it was gorgeous, it had everything I could want in a home. except the fenced back yard. ( i have pets) but I"m hesitant about getting one because I'm afraid a large wind will just come and knock it over and before you know it I'm not in kansas anymore-LOL. I don't like trailers, and I don't know if manufactured homes and modular homes are the same as a double or triple wide trailer? so my question is: what is the difference between the three, how much force can it withstand from wind,. are they good investments?

I'm not sure how to make it actaully look like i'm working when there is nothing to do!!

For all those who undrstand the tax implications of the 401k and traditional (not ROTH) IRA's. When finally paying taxes on these pre-tax retirement funds, are you taxed on the bracket you are in when you withdraw the money, or the tax bracket you are in when you put the money in originally? Are there ways to avoid paying the higher taxes on these funds if your tax bracket does change, especially if you bracket changes because of how much you are saving in these funds? Hope that is clear...

What is YOUR career or job? What is your career and what type of education or requisites were needed? I am in my early 20's with a college degree in psychology (but not necessarily dedicated to that subject matter) and still trying to figure out a path. So just let me know what you do so that I might get some ideas. Thanks a bunch!

We were not the owners of the house. We're the renters. The house is scheduled for auction on 12/17/07.

We rented this house out from my father's friend who then sold it to a man who also tried to sell it, but there were no buyers. The house was built in 1979 and was added onto in 2004.

The asking price is over $380,000 and the market is so bad I doubt anyone would want to take this house on. It's 6 bds and 3 baths, but its in terrible shape.

I'm not sure if we'll have to move or what since I believe we have have squatters rights. What rights do we have as tenants?
