What is the best way to donate some nice clothing and working electronics. I have some nice clothing that i want to donate and claim on my tax return next year. Does anyone know of any organization that issues a voucher for donations they receive and also picks the good up in from ones house.

I know of salvation army, but i want some others that are relatively better for tax return purposes.

Your polite advise will be appreciated.

Thanks
JI

I am tired of banks offering ridiculously low rates. Looking for a return of higher then 5% and low to medium risk. If the investment is between $15-20k what are the best ways it can be invested to get that return? (in Canada) Is real estate an alternative, because there is a market for it here?

My husband worked for Business A for 1 day just helping out in the shop. At the time, he was working reduced hours at his regular job. The hours at his normal job picked up the following week, so he never ended up working for Business A again. He filled out the normal paperwork W-4s, etc and was paid a couple weeks later with a check that didn't have a stub. We didn't think to make a photocopy of it, and our bank doesn't have a copy of the deposited check.

My husband filed for unemployment again a few weeks ago. He then received a letter in the mail wanting proof of his employment with Business A since they are claiming he never worked there. My husband contacted the employer and he is not willing to give him anything (a copy of the check, statement). DWD is only willing to accept a check or something similiar (W2s) as proof he worked there.

It seems that we are at a standoff. What do we do? Is there any course of action that we have?

I have been working for this company for 4 years! I have been the kitchen manager for 3. I have been responsible for a multi million dollar restaurant that is very popular, but I will remain anonamyous.
Anyways, back in March we had gotten a new General Manager, I was informed that he did not like me at all and he had plans to get rid of me.
Each time I was on vacation, and I did not do my inventory and he did, my numbers were sky high. It took me nearly a month and a half to get them back down.
By the beginning of October, I was having to work 6 days a week over 70 hours. He was working less than 40 hours and only 3-4 days a week calling in every shift manager to work for him. I know he has that right, but that only displays his laziness.
Not to mention there is another manager there that has had more complaints on him than any other manager.
I knew that I was getting forced out, but I needed the $$.
Now, I am getting 15. an hr.
Was this fair? I was never written up or anythin

I am a nurse. I transferred to a smaller branch of the large hospital I was working at for a year. While orienting to my new surroundings, my mentor and I had a lot of downtime on the night shift. He wanted to watch movies over the internet, but was wary of using the office computers to do so. He suggested I bring in my laptop, which I did. To make a long story short, there were nude pictures of me on my laptop, which were seen by him and another employee. I did not deliberately show them, the other employee found them. When I went back to work 4 days later, the gossip about this incident had gotten out of control and I was fired for unprofessional conduct. Unemployment compensation was also denied.

Many employees bring their laptops to work and many look at or have nude photos.

Was this fair? Should I continue to fight it, or just accept it and let it go? I do have another job now.

Well a good friend of mine is trying to get out of her lease because her mother is coming to stay with her and her family after being neglected in a nursing home. She had been staying in the same apartment for over 15 years. She would still stay in the apartment if it had another bedroom and was handicap accesible, which it is not. Also, it doesn't seem as if the Landlord has kept his commitment to the lease (to make repairs, etc) because she has countless holes in her ceiling, leaking from the walls, etc in her house that she has asked the maitience team to fix. She lives in NY by the way. Could any of this legally buy her way out of the lease? Or will she have to pay the remaining months? Her lease is up in FEB. btw.

My business plan is to start the business the first of the year(2008), but am unsure if starting the DBA sends the information to the IRS stating that a business was started under my name. And they make come after me to find any tax information for the business while i'm not even using it yet. I want to establish the DBA now so I'm prepared for the first of the year. I have to still get the insurance needed. But is it safe to get the DBA now and Start doing taxes and keeping track of business spending the first of the year? Or should I wait till the first of the year for the DBA too?

My fiance and I are in the process of buying our first home. The house that we are interested in is beautiful. The sellers are going through a divorce and therefore, are selling this immaculate home. The home is over 1300 square feet sitting on .3 acres of land. They have only lived in the house a year and bought it while undergoing foreclosure. Their asking price is 78, 000 which, in my opinion is very underpriced. This home is in a very good neighborhood, surrounded by other beautiful houses. There is also a huge utility building included with the property (I can drive my vehicle into it). The back yard is fenced in which is a plus because we have a 2 year old daughter. The home has only been on the market for 40 days. We think the price is fair, especially since the realtor is taking care of some very minor repairs herself. Should we still try to negotiate the price? If so, how much should we go down? How do I find information on how much other homes in the area has sold for?
