I typed 30 wpm, with two spelling errors. I used to type 60 wpm on a teletype machine. I thought I typed faster now than when I was young. So I am slowing down. I tend to type so fast, I make more mistakes and then go back to fix them. I will have to try this again later, and just keep typing when I do make a mistake. This was a test I'd wanted to do for years. And I'm glad I finally got around to it.

I read online that an average typist reaches 50 to 70wpm, while some positions can require 80 to 95 (usually the minimum required for dispatch positions and other typing jobs), and some advanced typists work at speeds above 120. As of 2005, Barbara Blackburn is the fastest typist in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records. Using the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard, she has maintained 150 wpm for 50 minutes, 170 wpm for shorter periods of time, and has been clocked at a peak speed of 212 wpm. Blackburn failed her typing class in high school, first encountered the Dvorak keyboard in 1938, quickly learned to achieve very high speeds, and occasionally toured giving speed-typing demonstrations during her secretarial career.

Anything over 70 WPM is doing very good.
The averages have been going up over the past 10 years or so. But it still surprises me how people apply for office positions and can not type ever 30-40 WPM.
